As all of my sentimental fabrics reside in my family home, I couldn’t think of what to bring to weave with that would spark any kind of emotional attachment or significance, so I turned to my friends to see what they thought I should take. The suggestion of one of our tea towels was made, a token from our flat, to represent us living together and to remind me of them. Although not notable in itself, the connotations of the tea towel are inclusive of home, connection and togetherness. The physicality of weaving would echo the bonds of our friendship and the new environment that we have to share that closeness. 

The process of weaving itself was highly therapeutic and the surroundings (soft furnishings and candles) made me feel comforted and calm - a safe space. I really enjoyed listening to the others accounts of why their fabric was significant and felt honoured to be witness to their release.

The woven piece is made of my own bed sheet that I owned at the time of my last relationship and contains memories of rejection,  pressure and the feeling of only being wanted for my body.
