The lesson launch will involve a class discussion regarding the use and condition of the playground and facilitated by the teacher. The teacher will encourage students to draw what a new playground would look like. During the release stage of the lesson, the teacher will collect data on what playground objects and shapes are seen in the drawing. The return will incorporate the class graphing playground objects and shapes seen in the drawings from the teacher's observations.

The students will engage in an Engineering Design Plan by discussing a playground issue and what ways it can be resolved.
1. Take students outside and have them to look around the playground and describe what they see. Ask them if they could share any shapes they see in their response.
2.Discuss with the students if they see some things they do not like.
3. Ask them if they could make a new playground what would it look like.
4. Tell the students that they will have an opportunity to create their own playground by drawing a picture of it.
5. Direct students to their table groups and give them materials to draw an illustration of a new school playground they would like to have. Encourage them to draw shapes to represent the objects on the playground. Also, encourage students to label their illustration.
6. After 30 minutes, encourage each table group to vote for one illustration they like and bring the illustration to the carpet.
7. Display each illustration and ask students to look for shapes seen in each illustration. As each table share out, graph each shape shared by students.
8. Analyze the graph with the students and discuss which shape was shaded the most, least, same.
9.Encourage students to vote for one illustration to give to the principal for consideration.
