The Fourth Amendment of the U.S Constitution provides the people the right to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable search and seizure. However, a public school took matters too far when they believed the young girl in the video below was in possession of illicit narcotics. Patted down, belongings rummaged through, then strip searched, the girl was left shaken, her mother shocked. When no drugs were found, the faculty involved in the unwarranted search went about daily duties. Many believe this to be a breach of the public's rights to protection against unreasonable search and seizure rights in section 8 of the Charter. Since the vote was 5 to 4, the controversy rises higher, since the Supreme lawmakers of Canada were almost split on the decision. Even though officer's are only authorized to search someone's phone if it connects to the incident in question, many Canadians are angered over losing the right to keep our private devices private.
