It has been almost four years since I started teaching Koreyano 10/11. I started learning Korean formally in 2013, when I enlisted Koreyano 10 (age reveal yarn). I became a Super Junior fan in 2009 and this had been my motivation in learning Korean. Although now it has changed to teaching Korean to students like you! I hope everyone enjoys the class and participate actively <3 Questions are always welcome so do not be afraid and ask away. Here is a pic of me with the Beyond the Story (BTS 10-year anniversary memoir) which I co-translated in Filipino :)

I’ve always been a fan of K-dramas (my first ever was Boys Over Flowers - one of the classics), which genuinely sparked my interest in learning Korean. I wanted to learn how to read and write in 한글 so I took up Koreyano 10 which I enjoyed and now I decided to further my studies in the language by taking up Koreyano 11. It may seem funny but I'm hoping to see the day when I can finally watch K-dramas and variety shows without subtitles (yes, para hindi na taas-baba yung mata ko palagi HAHAHA) My favorite K-dramas are Reply 1988 and Welcome to Waikiki (si 괜찮아 괜찮아). I also enjoy listening to K-indie and R&B tunes (faves ko sina DEAN and Colde). I hope to have a fruitful and fun-filled semester with everyone as we go through the process of learning Korean together :))) Before embarking on any task, I usually tell myself this phrase which I also use to encourage others (in English/Filipino nga lang para maintindihan nila): “괜찮아 괜찮아 할 수 있다! 화이팅!!” And finally, here’s a pic of my fave Korean dessert: 티라미수 빙수

I enlisted in Koreyano 11 because I really enjoyed my Koreyano 10. I thought it would be fun if I could continue the course. Though, I am a bit nervous entering Koreyano 11 because it has been two semesters since I took Koreyano 10 and I am unsure if I have retained much of what I have learned before.

My motivation in learning Korean is primarily rooted in my interest in K-pop which extended to watching Korean media such as K-Drama or Korean films.

My fav K-Pop group at the moment is New Jeans. I also enjoy watching Korean mukbang videos.

For this class, I expect it to be a safe space for beginners in the Korean language. As I have said, it has been a while since I took Koreyano 10 so I think it’ll take some time for me to jog my Koreyano memory. I would really appreciate for the patience and accomodation of the instructor and my classmates.

i would tell myself: “Fighting, AJ!

I enlisted in Koreyano 11 because Koreyano 10 was one of the most fun subjects I have taken so far and am really excited to continue my Korean-learning journey. :D

Aside from wanting to understand K-dramas without subtitles, I want to learn Korean because I generally find language learning to be an enjoyable activity. So why Korean specifically? I also just think that it's a really beautiful language and it's pleasant to speak and listen to.

I used to be a big fan of BTS and Twice. I also used to watch K-dramas pretty frequently. My favorite K-drama of all time is Moon Lovers! I know it's pretty unhealthy but I'm also obsessed with Samyang Buldak Ramen (cheese flavor) hehe.

I expect the class to be just as enjoyable as Koreyano 10 was, while amping up the difficulty level. I learned a lot from Koreyano 10 outside of vocab and grammar, like about Korean culture and practices, and I think that will also be the case in Koreyano 11!

As the semester starts, I want to tell myself that no matter what difficulties I face, I should remind myself of my love for learning because it's what fuels me to persevere and do my best. :D But at the same time, I should know how to take breaks and ask for help from people when I need it, instead of pushing myself too hard all the time.

I enlisted Koreyano 11 mainly because for the past semesters, the time of Kor 11 always hits some other subjects that I think is most needed for the semester instead :")). Also, I did really enjoy Koreyano 10 and would like to learn more about the language. Currently, because of these courses, I'm looking into enrolling in Korean classes even outside the university to further supplement my knowledge.

I'd like to learn Korean mainly because since when I was little, I've always wanted to learn a language, but I didn't know what. Until when I became a Kpop stan, I found Korean interesting and would like to learn how to speak it.

Currently, I'm not stanning as much as before. However, I do like to listen to SEVENTEEN, TXT, ITZY, Le Sserafim, a little bit of ASTRO (May Moonbin be at peace <33) and any other Kpop song that's a banger (I prefer refreshing/cute/goodboy concepts). I'm also interested in covering Kpop dances and also aspiring to be an idol in the future! (ofc in the PPOP scene).

I'd like to tell myself: "Be sure of yourself and your choices. You know what you want for yourself. Trust that you're making the right decisions."

I enlisted in Koreyano 11 cuz Ma'am Yen made me do it >_< 💓 My experience learning a foreign language for the first time last semester in Koreyano 10 was memorable and unforgettable because I was accompanied by a helping relationship with my classmates and 선생님. Aside from 6 units of language elective being required in my program, this positive and constructive learning environment we developed made me love the Korean culture even more, and to be a lover of culture is to speak its soul.

In Senior High School, we did a study about the familial relationship of a "comfort woman" mother and her daughter, rigorously digesting all possible literature available on the internet. In the existing researches, I found out there were also Korean women who were victims of the "comfort women" system (their calls for justice never faded away). My interest in the history of Korea as a nation started there, supplemented further by Korean literature after reading Human Acts by Han Kang and Pachinko by Min Jin Lee; and after tearfully watching Malmoe directed by Eom Yu-na. All of these flickered a motivation within me to continue Koreyano 11 because of their powerful message (perhaps, not all) in forwarding human rights, genuine freedom, and justice---the core of my degree program---all rooted in historical accounts and narratives.

My favorite kdrama are 갯마을 차차차 and 빈센조. But now I hate 송중기 🤬 My favorite Korean food is 김밥 and 자장면.

Still as fun as Koreyano 10, but more challenging.

Wag panay ganda-gandahan 😞 mag-aral k nmn

It's one of my dreams to interview and report about my favorite artists so in order to do that, I need to be able to communicate with them confidently and fluently. In Koreyano 10, I learned that making mistakes is usually the best way to learn and recall information, so I hope we don't become afraid nor embarrassed of committing errors :D

• Learning the Korean language in Koreyano 10 was my most enjoyable achievement last semester. I want to continue what I have learned so far and challenge myself for more competencies that I would later on learn. The main reason I chose Koreyano as my cognate course is my love for KDrama and KPop. However, it became much more than a way to watch dramas with no subtitles or understand lyrics of Korean songs without searching for their English translations. It became a comfort and fun activity for me, and I hope to experience that again in this course.

• Aside from wanting to understand Korean series without subtitles or Korean lyrics without the help of English translations, I also dream of going to South Korea as my first outside-the-country travel and be able to have even simple conversations with the people there. [Sa madaling salita, para wala ng translator. Charot.]

Among my favorite dramas are Reply 1988, Crash Landing On You, Hospital Playlist, Racket Boys, Hometown Cha Cha Cha, Twenty Five Twenty One, Extraordinary Attorney Woo, and Welcome to Samdal-ri.

For KPop artists, I stan Red Velvet, IU, Girls' Generation, SEJEONG, TWICE, aespa, BOL4, IVE, NewJeans, EXO, and SEVENTEEN.

• I expect this class to be as fun as Koreyano 10!

• Sabi nga ni Wendy,

"It's good to have good grades all the time, but we're human beings. It's impossible that we're always perfect, so it's okay if you don't get good grades sometimes. Even if you're wrong, there's something you can learn from it. If you're too perfect, you can make mistakes. It's okay to learn one by one from your experiences. And you said you got this result because you didn't work hard. But I think you're living harder than anyone else everyday. So don't worry too much, and I think it would be good to continue as you have done so far."

It was quite difficult to decide, considering that I really wanted to take both, but after I realized how much I enjoyed learning about Korean culture (not only by myself, but with my classmates and our 선생님, as well) as I learned its language, I decided to push through with enlisting in Koreyano 11.

Generally, I just find it enjoyable to learn about foreign cultures as I go through the process of learning each culture's languages. To be more specific, however, I want to learn Korean to be able to watch Korean films and series without the need for subtitles. As for Korean films and series, some of my favorites are: Parasite, The Witch: Part 1. The Subversion, Twenty-five Twenty-one, Twinkling Watermelon, Racket Boys, Cheer Up, Weak Hero Class 1, Sweet Home, etc.

I expect that this course would be more challenging, given that the lessons will be more advanced than those in Koreyano 10.

most punctual ang atake see u on tuesday po ^^

-reason ko talaga simula Koreyano 10 i'll take this class para kapag nanonood ng kdrama or nakikinig ng kpop songz hindi ko na kailangan mag subtitle or mag search ng meaning ng sinasabi nila pero sabi ni Miss Yen hindi raw possible na maintindihan ko ang subtitle just by taking koreyano 10 (Miss sa Koreyano 11 po ba medyo possible na ba?) well kidding aside I enlisted this class because of the hidden culture and traditions that I want to experience and grasp.

I really enjoy their culture and by learning their language feeling ko mas magiging connected ako sa kanila.

-OMGGGG!! (wag niyo aq ijudge sa favs ko)

Kpop Group: Twice (Gay for Twice 4ever)

Korean Movie: Handmaiden (characters are meh but the plot twist :OOOO)

Korean Culture: Chuseok :))

Korean Food: Bulgogi (YUMMM YUMMM AS A BEEF GURLIE)

-Still the same last Koreyano 10 super saya pero def harder and more challenging.

(GALAW GALAW WAG PURO HILATA) labyu

I enlisted Kor 11 because I enjoyed taking Kor 10 last semester, and I figured that while I have the chance to take it under you (freshie prio), I'll take the chance hehehe.

I want to learn Korean because aside from wanting to understand k-dramas without subtitles, I want to be able to read Manhwas too without having to wait for the translations... 💔 (which usually take weeks, or even months....)

My favorite k-drama would probably be twenty-five twenty-one, doctors, and business proposal; while my favorite food would be samgyup!! #samgyuploverforever!!

I hope that I'll be able to learn a lot more not just Korean, but also the culture behind it. I think it will be more challenging because of I'll have to remember and apply the concepts I've applied during Kor 10 to Kor 11, but I'm looking forward to that!

Don't be too hard on yourself but make sure to focus on your priorities! Hardwork always prevails, so keep giving your best this sem!!! :)

I already took Koreyano 10 last semester under KC선생님. I enlisted in Koreyano 11 mainly to follow the curriculum of my degree program in CRS, i.e., we are required to pass a minimum of 6 units in a foreign language; subsequently, I want to accomplish the minimum required units of foreign language as soon as possible with Koreyano 10 lessons as fresh as a hooked raw fish in my brain. :D

I used to be curious about Korean because my mom likes to watch Korean movies and TV shows. I used to hear annyeonghaseyo, jinjja, oppa, gwenchana literally every night when my mom gets a hand of the TV remote. :) :D

I am not quite sure if ramyeon or ramen originated from South Korea but I discovered ramyeon by watching Korean ASMR YouTube videos – it helps me to calm my mind in order for me to sleep peacefully. :D :P

I also like law TV shows and movies. I love Juvenile Justice and Law School, although I forgot most of the details about those shows. I also used to binge Extraordinary Attorney Woo, however, I haven’t finished it and I lost the motivation to finish it because my mom already told me the ending! -_-

(Spoiler alert: I don’t like romance hehe) :D :D

Lastly, I am a sucker for Jennie of BLACKPINK but the ultimate bias wreckers are Jihyo and Sana from TWICE… and Jisoo of BLACKPINK (as a secret!) <3 :D

“Good luck! Sana hindi ka na crammerist at sana hindi ka na palaaya sa Pop Up every week! :D

Stop the RBF shi, that’s why people don’t talk to you -_-”

I enlisted in Koreyano 11 bec. its the "next step" after taking up Koreyano 10, but to be specific on why i chose Koreyano as my language elective out of the others is bec. i've grown to have immense appreciation of their culture when i became a K-pop stan and a K-drama fan.

I want to learn Korean for clout(1/2 eme). I've always dreamt of knowing a foreign language talaga, so with that reason on top of my other reasons such as: (1) To understand Korean stuff i watch without subtitles; (2) To know Korean enough to be able to speak & understand it if ever mapadpad aq sa Korea and; (3) To have a deeper understanding and ample knowledge of the very interesting culture of the nation.

So the fist exposure i had with K-dramas was with Boys over Flowers and Dream High so from there, I've loved any genres that involves Romance (esp yung may love triangles) like Start Up, True Beauty, While you were sleeping!!

For K-Pop, the first group i stanned was Black Pink but i wasn't that tutok w/ it(more on a listener lang talaga). From there, I stanned BTS, Seventeen, Twice, Enhypen, TXT, Stray Kids, and IVE (to the level na I collected PC's and albums, laging on time with all the updates, nood ng lives, stream ng mv's, pagvote sa mga competitions hshdhjj). Although i'm not that active anymore unlike before, I still listen to new songs from them as well as from new artists.

My expectations is that this would be a fun class despite it being very challenging. I also expect that it would be very engaging(based sa energy ni Ma'am and klasmeyts hehe)
