He speaks about how he never left his home city, Florence and was born into noble ancestory. Dante wrote many pieces with his extended family being many of the main characters. Oddly enough his immediate family was never mentioned. Ghibellines and Guelfs had a major impact on Dante's life shaping him as a person. When Dante was nine he met the love of his life Beatrice, unfortunately when she was 24 she past away, grief stricken he wrote "La Vita Nueva" (1293). A few years later he married Gemma Donati and they had 3-4 children.

While he was a devout Christian, Dante opened the eyes of many people by introducing them to the idea that we only have one life and not to waste it (Humanism). Humanism was focusing on the individual such as emotions, rational thoughts and doing good deeds instead of focusing on the supernatural. Dante is known as the greatest Italian poet ever and the father of humanism.
