I feel like putting pressure on your children is very unnecessary because at the end of the day a child us going to want to do what they want to do. As the quote also says its your legacy because that’s what you leave behind if you pass away. It also talks about how this is what you leave for your children. The epigraph also says how your eduction is more valuable than objects on earth. So its important for parents to instil their knowledge onto you. Maybe that’s what will happen in the book. 

The second epigraph is similar to the saying you can bring a horse to water but you can’t make it drink the water. This can interpret as a parent trying to instill knowledge to their child but they can only do so much. The quote is similar to that saying because she uses knowledge as a metaphor to books saying she can only provide you with the information but you cant force your kid to learn it. Sonny’s feelings seem to be a little indifferent because of how his family treats him.
Sonny’s mom is very supportive of him whereas his dad can tent to be the complete opposite. Him being treated this way is what leads to his indifferent feelings. Sonny’s mom understands how he can be almost the weak link of the family because he is nerd like. He’s not athletic and plays football as his brother does. To Sonny’s mom this isn’t a problem but on the other hand Sonny’s dads actions show that Sonny in general does bother him. Since his brother is older, Sonny’s dad wanted a girl, it is forever in Sonny’s head that he isn’t wanted or appreciated. His idea of family isn’t the best because how he saw his home life. As he was talking about his family and explained that his “dad slapped open the screen door and came out on the porch as if to argue with her” (Hickman 13). His dad represented where he can get the negative connotation of family as this one shows how he can act aggressively. Sonny’s dad also didn’t support what he was into or sometimes teased him. An example of this is when his dad almost taunted him by responding back “little man... in your care sometimes you’re already there” (Hickman 77). This conversation they had was when Sonny expressed the interest he had in rockets and space.
