         <description><![CDATA[<div><em>Ernest Rutherford was born in Nelson (New Zealand), on August 30, 1871. He graduated M.A. in 1893 with a double first in Mathematics and Physical Science and he worked as a research student under J.J. Thomson at Trinity College in Cambridge. Rutherford's first researches were concerned with the magnetic properties of iron exposed to high frequency oscillations. In 1913 with H.G. Moseley used cathodes rays to bombard atoms of various elements and showed that the inner structures correspond with a group of lines which characterized the elements. He died in Cambridge on October 19, 1937.</em></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><em>Rutherford studied radiating phenomena that characterized the element thorium and he discovered that this element emanates a gaseous substance. This capacity was typical not only of thorium but also of other elements such as radium, uranium and other radioactive elements. Thanks to this discovery, he proposed the so-called disintegration theory.</em> </div>]]></description>
