School counselors are advocates for their students. All students have the right to be heard and respected. They should never be turned away and also given the chance to speak and map out their futures. 

By using the ASCA Ethical Standards for School Counselors, not only the students but the school as a whole will be able to run smoothly and have a counseling department that is on top of their game and willing and ready to work for the betterment of their students. This will maximize the development of each and every student as well as the other staff in the school setting. 

I believe that students achieve when connections are made, therefore, I would create a system in which that is able to happen. For instance in the high school setting I do like the idea of having one counselor for all the freshman, but then those students currently are divided up by their Alphabet name. I believe however, that the counselors should have the same students all together as a class. For instance, for class of 2024 the counselor would have them until they are graduated. That way the counselor is dealing with the same academic issues as well as milestones instead of multiple different ones, I believe this will help with productivity as well as making real connections! 

My vision as a School Counselor is to be a school counselor that is ethically sound and acts as a integral part of the student's success. I will reach this vision by being able to reach all students in a comprehensive and proactive way in which all students will feel heard and supported.
