Over 130 pyramids have been discovered in Egypt. The Great Pyramid of Giza is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and the last one still in existence. The estimates of the number of workers involved in the construction of the pyramids differ significantly but it might have been as many 100,000 people. All Egyptian pyramids were built on the west bank of the River Nile, which as the site of the setting sun and was associated with the realm of the dead in Egyptian mythology. There was an attempt to destroy the Giza pyramids in the 12th century. Al-Aziz, a Kurdish ruler and the second Ayyubid Sultan of Egypt, tried to demolish them but had to give up because the task was too big. However, he did succeed in damaging Menkaure's Pyramid where he left a large vertical gash in its north face.

How many bargains you get when shopping depends on Egypt’s Suez Canal being open for business. Between 8% and 12% of all international trade goes through Egypt’s Suez Canal, which cuts thousands of miles off ship journeys from Asia to Europe and to the North American East Coast. We can call it 10% of world trade on a rolling average But note that if the Suez Canal were to be closed by the country’s turbulence, it wouldn’t just affect that ten percent– the impact on prices of many commodities would be across the board.

Marriages are usually arranged. A young man enlists the help of his mother or a matchmaker to find a suitable prospective wife. When a girl is chosen, the maybe groom's family arranges to meet with the young woman's father to make a formal proposal. If the father is open to the idea of the marriage, the groom then presents his financial situation. He tells his future father-in-law how much he can pay for a dowry, and what kind of jewelry he will give his bride-to-be. If the families agree to the terms, they read the first chapter of the Koran (the sacred text of Islam) together and set an engagement date. The engagement party is an occasion for festive celebration. The couple exchanges rings at the party, but they wear them on their right hands until the marriage. Then each switches the ring to the left hand.

Although i thought I knew most things about my heritage, I did find out some interesting information. I found out that my family never lived anywhere else before Egypt and about 98% of them still do. I also found out that I have a cousin in London, who has his own family. I found some of my family in Canada. The majority of my cousins are in Egypt though. I have family spread out all over the world and i haven't met them. The Christmas is celebrated as Ramadan except for the 5% of Christians there. The Christians still don't celebrate Christmas on December 25. My relatives are the small percent of Christians and they celebrate Christmas on January 7. My ancestors were all christian. I have over 10 family members i didn't know existed.
