         <description><![CDATA[<div>-In order to retake a test, you must show evidence of relearning through notes and restudying. You must also write a written petition in order to show the teacher that you reviewed the material and are ready to retake the test.<br>-You have until three days after the test to submit the petition and until a week after that to retake the test in the testing center.<br>- Test corrections are completed by retrying each in correct question, finding what you did wrong, and what the correct answer is and why<br>-There is one side that is arguing that addictions are caused genetically and that if an addiction runs in the family then one is much more likely to fall victim to that addiction as well<br>-Another view on addictions is that they are shaped by environmental factors. One example is that the culture that you are raised in will have a large effect on your perception of drugs. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-We filled out a diagram in the packet, which helped with the visualization of the neuron and its smaller parts as well as functions<br>-We also made our own model as shown below to help reinforce the diagram<br>-Also filled out a bunch of definitions to make sure that we knew what each part of the neuron is responsible for and how it can affect other parts of the neuron<br>-Lastly, we came up with our own example of how neurons can malfunction such as multiple sclerosis because of the myelin sheath degenerating </div>]]></description>

         <title>I can identify the different brain imaging techniques 9/21</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-A CT scan shows many different angles of brain structures, but it can only show structures, which makes it less useful<br>-An X-Ray is used to examine bones in the head. It can only show images of bones in your head, which makes it kind of useless for trying to see possible activity in the brain<br>-An EEG is a graph representation of activity that was measured in the brain. It is helpful for seeing activity, but you can't see the actual brain through an EEG<br>-A PET scan is very helpful in that it can show energy and activity that is going on in the brain. It can also help find tumors in the brain that can help catch cancer before it becomes too advanced to stop<br>-An MRI shows a side view of the brain and all the structures within it. It helps show structures and any possible damage, but can only show a side view and structures (shown below)<br>-An fMRI is the most useful scan by far. It not only shows all the structures in the brain, but it also helps show all the activity going on in the brain along with the structures. It helps combine the best of the other scans into one.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>How does the findings of Jim's scans and the mind reading discovery help answer theoretical questions in ways that existing measures cannot?<br>-Psychopathic killers often have damage to their judgement<br>-There is too much serotonin where you become insensitive to serotonin leading to way too much aggression and violent thoughts being exhibited<br>-Often a traumatic experience seen at a young age can lead to this later behavior<br>-Jim has a large history of violence and killing in his family tree, which may have an effect on him<br>-There must be a perfect storm where the timing and the experiences line up to create this killer<br>-Jim found out that he has the gene and obviously the answer to the question is that he saw that there could be a genetic component with the passing of the psychopathic gene throughout the family<br>-We also reviewed where structures in the brain are located and what their functions are to help to give us a better visual of what the brain is like</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>We learned about how the brain can be compared to broccoli. The top of the broccoli is representing the brain while the stem of the broccoli is representing the brain stem. The red gummy bear is representing medulla which controls heart rate and breathing. The white gummy bear is representing the cerebellum which is in charge of coordination and movement. Lastly, the gummy worm is representing the Reticular Formation, which is in charge of alertness.</div>]]></description>

They must have conscious feelings about themselves as well as others whatever those feelings may be.<br>-The gummy worm in the orange is a corpus callosum which is used to connect the two hemispheres<br>-The orange represents the cerebral cortex which is the center of the whole diagram. The split in the middle of the orange represents the two hemispheres<br>-The orange gummy bears are representative of the occipital lobe which control visual processes<br>-The red gummy bears are the frontal lobe which is responsible for the judgement and coordination of the body</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The endocrine system is a series of glands that help regulate normal bodily processes.<br>The glands secrete hormones that act as chemical messengers of what they want the body to do.<br>There are major glands such as the hypothalamus, Pituitary, and the reproductive glands that have major jobs in the body.<br>Hypothalamus gland- stimulates or suppresses hormones released by the brain<br>Pituitary gland- The "master gland", controls and releases hormones<br>Reproductive gland- gland that allow the body to reproduce<br>Without endocrine system, there would be major problems with how the body functions and what it can do<br>For example, if there was too much growth hormone produced then one would grow extremely tall, which could lead to possible health problems<br>Drugs have a huge effect on the brain as they interfere with the neuron communication, and can act as neurotransmitters in the brain.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1. The researchers severs the corpus callosum, which acts as a connection between the two hemispheres allowing them to communicate to each other<br>2. Since the hemispheres control the opposite sides of your body it makes it difficult to do two different things at once. They also both have different functions that they are responsible for. The motor messages confuse each other which cause the difficulty in drawing the different shapes<br>3. I would rather have my left hemisphere as i would need it in order to speak as well as analyze logically. I don't need the creativity as much as I need the logic and the ability to speak</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1. We sleep in order to help growth and recuperate the body. It is the body's time to reset and recuperate the neurons in the brain.<br>2. The full sleep cycle is stage 1, stage 2, stage 3, stage 4, stage 3, stage 2, stage 1, REM. The cycle is 90 minutes long. Each time one goes through a cycle the REM stage lengthens and becomes bigger. The longer one sleeps, stage 3 and 4 begin to disappear in order to make sure one awakes during stage 1.&nbsp;<br>3. We dream in the REM stage. It also called paradoxical sleep.<br>4. Manifest content is the actual content of what is in your dream. The latent content is what your dream means and why you're having this dream.<br>5. Is it possible to stop sleep walking or control it by yourself?</div>]]></description>
