Hello! I'm happy you're here. My name is Ashley Stephanie Hosein. I'm a nursing student in the Compressed Program at Trent University. Prior to starting my nursing education, I earned a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree at Queen's University in Biology. I chose to pursue a career in nursing because helping others is my passion, and I'm a deeply intuitive person who values communication, which I believe is at the heart of nursing care and central to our learnings in NURS 2001 Family in the Community. Partnering with Parents for Pediatric Nursing Care

I chose my raspberry rainbow Littman Classic III Stethoscope to be my artifact for Topic 1 because it is designed to have a dual diaphragm chest piece for both adult and pediatric assessment. Through virtual simulations and clinical learning, we have discussed how pediatric care is distinct from adult nursing care due to the physical and cognitive growth and development that occurs throughout childhood, and the unique needs that come with these changes.

Trauma-Informed Approach to Sexual Assault Care

I chose the Lavender Hill Healing House website to be my artifact for Topic 2 because this specialized residence is transitional housing that provides support and programming to assist and protect young women who have been trafficked. I learned about this service during my clinical learning because it was offered to a pediatric patient. I thought it was a great example of the types of specialized supports available to survivors of sexual violence.

Optimizing Nutrition in Preterm Infants with Donor Human Milk

I chose the Rogers Hixon Ontario Human Milk Bank website to be my artifact for Topic 4 because this milk bank proudly services Neonatal Intensive Care Units across Ontario and Eastern Canada with pasteurized human donor milk, educating the community about the importance of nourishing medically fragile babies and improving infant outcomes across the country.

Supporting Patients with Eating Disorders and the Roles of Nurses and Families

I chose my aesthetic project to be my artifact for Topic 3 because my virtual art gallery presentation was about eating disorder awareness. I had painted a picture of myself as a person who recovered from anorexia nervosa and discussed the topic using the patterns of knowing in nursing. I am very passionate about helping individuals achieve their eating disorder recovery goals and believe in the importance of embodying patients' experiences in nursing to know how to improve patient care.

Maternal Mental Health Promotion, Education, and Management

I chose my maternal mental health promotion and education brochure that I created with a partner to be my artifact for Topic 5. I created this brochure for my discharge teaching presentation for NURS 2021 during my maternal-child rotation. I am passionate about mental health and advocating for women's health, and I believe that maternal mental health has a strong relationship with child development, thus should be nurtured for the wellbeing of both mothers and their children.

I got this stuffed animal from SickKids when I was a little girl. I named him Pengu and I have always kept him as my dream one day is to work for SickKids as a pediatric nurse.

As a future nurse and a former veterinary assistant, I truly believe in employing the healing power of animals to improve human health and wellbeing. Every patient is going to have something that helps them feel better; it is a nurse's job to make sure patients' and families' needs are seen and heard and that they have what they need to ease their fears, and feel security and comfort.
