   There are a lot of reasons why these turtles are only seen on a couple islands.
One of these reason is about  hundreds of years ago people coming to the county brought goats with them. Goats like to eat grass and so did the the turtles.   But as time grew the goats had eaten all the grass. So that left none for the turtles. So the giant turtles started to die.   
    About 40 years ago people who wanted to help the giant turtles came over to the islands and took the goats. Ever since then the turtle population has started to grow more.
