The Allies carried out a massive deception operation intended to make the Germans think the main invasion target was Pas-de-Calais, the narrowest point between Britain and France, rather than Normandy. There were many tactics used to convince the Germans of the fake location. General Patton led a pretend army which was supposedly based in England, fake radio transmissions were sent, and there were double agents.
