It kills many different types of marine animals. To marine animals Oil coats the fur of otters and seals, leaving them vulnerable to hypothermia and even when marine mammals escape the immediate effects, an oil spill can cause damage by contaminating their food supply.

    In the BP Oil Spill, more than 200 million gallons of crude oil was pumped into the Gulf of Mexico for a total of 87 days, making it the biggest oil spill in U.S. history. 
    It had cause much damaged to many things and you can still see affects of the oil spill to this day but slowly but surely it can recovery in time.

    1. Find a small cotainer.
    2. Fill 1/3 of the container with water mixed with food coloring.
    3. Fill the rest of the 2/3rds with any oil you want!
    Tada! here you have a cool looking decoraton that lets you see what effects have with oil alone!

The oil can kill different types of plants and algae that if taken out of the environment could cause a lot of damage to the environment causing habitat loss. Oil can also reach unborn organisms and poison them or contaminate them which could cause many health problems. This affects humans since a good portion of food because it lessens the amount of food we can eat or have a higher chance of eating contaminated food!(eww imagine eating a fish the was contaminated in oil ) and we also lose a lot of profit from oil spills

  • BP is responsible for close to $40 billion in fines, cleanup costs, and settlements as a result of the oil spill in 2010, with an additional $16 billion due to the Clean Water Act.
  • Over 30,000 people responded to the spill in the Gulf Coast working to collect oil, clean up beaches, take care of animals and perform various other duties. As of 2012, the Gulf was still polluted with oil.
