     What skills do my students writers need?  My students need to give detailed, descriptive evidence for their controlling ideas.  “Hand Dryers are ‘Clearly Dangerous’ to Children’s Hearing, Published Research by a 13-year-old Says,” does a good job of detailing evidence and using sensory, descriptive writing.  
     The author uses a good hook to lure the reader in and then sets it with descriptive language like “size up the drying options”, “visibly relax”, “overpowering roar”, “from silence to deafening blast, the grating  rasping whoosh as hands pass through the air stream”.  The author further gives an abundant array of data driven evidence.  He continues with the underlying theme that a teenager, like many of our students, did the research and wrote the research article.
