I believe that this sort of disciplinary action should be taken if a particular student does not listen or is stubborn when beinh told to do something over and over again for example, If a student was talking too much and refuses to stop when being to. But if a teacher decides to make a student write this over and over without warning the student first then this will be a wrong move.

I think that punishments are sometime necessary for students but must be reasonable. The students who do something bad will get punished while those who did not should be rewarded. For this type of punishment, I think it is not effective. It will make the students hate the subject and be rebellious. Maybe, the teachers can punish the students by asking them to write a song, essay or poem. In this era, being a teacher is such a challenge carrier. Therefore , I think that future teachers should be more creative in order to attract students' attention so that they will do their homework with fun and not as a burden. Other than that, kids love to play and talk a lot. Thus, teachers should do something that they like or make the class happening so that they will talk and communicate with their friends. For example, do a lot of activities and use the concept of playing while learning. (Amalia)

I don't think it is a suitable way to punish the student who had talked in the class. My friend was punished by the similar way last time because he talked in the class. Because of the punishment, he didn't dare to talk in the class but at the same time he didn't voice out his opinion or ask question in the class because he scared he would be punished again. As a teacher, we should know the reason why the students cannot pay attention in the class. The problem may come from our teaching method which makes them feel bored. Thus, a teacher should let all the students get involved in the class in order to get their attention. If a student cannot stop talking in the class, the teacher can invite the student to talk in front of the class. (Karen)

I'm not completely assured that it is the rightest thing to do over a given situation. But i would say that i partially agree to it.

Repetition is one way for human mind to remember certain thing. By writing the line over and over again it may stimulate the brain to think back about the words that they had written, which is to not talk in the class. Subconsciously, their minds play a trick not to repeat the misbehavior again.

Punishment is one thing but knowing the root to the problem would be more of an effective solution. They are lacking of interest to listen so teachers might should try engaging the students to learn. Make them interested and have passion to study. By then, the students' attentions will be fully diverted and focused on the teaching and they will not talk to their friends. And if they still don't listen, then the punishment can be done accordingly. After all evolving the students' attitude is one thing a teacher should pay attention to instead of just academic excellence

-fina- (14/01/18 2:03)

In my opinion, punishment is sometimes important to give a reminder to him or her that the actions done is wrong. However, too much of punishment may bring serious consequences to the person. Him or her may feel uncomfortable, or even looked down upon if the punishment is overly done. They might lose their confidence and feel ashamed about themselves and as a result, they will shut themselves down in fear they might do something wrong in the future when they speak up. In my opinion, punishments are important but teachers need to be extra careful in punishing students and choose their actions wisely. ( Koay )

The students may lost their confidents if they become the laughing stock of their classmates. Their self-esteem will be low and they will questioning themselves if the reason why they receive a severe punishment is because of who they are. They will think that they are the problem. Thus, teachers should find better ways to help students instead of giving punishments(Hajar)

I think the relevance of the punishment that are happening in the picture should be determined based on the situation. For me, the timing and the intensity of certain punishments will decide whether is it effective or just being abusive toward students. As a future teacher, I think the punishment should be given to the students after they aware of which behaviors are punished so they will understand the relationship between their behavior and the punishments. Then, the punishment cannot be too intense because it can lead to other problems such as the students started being violent and aggressive. In conclusion, as an educator we should be careful in punishing our students as it can affect them and ourselves too.

-Nawa🌈🦄

Source:
https://www.bookwidgets.com/blog/2017/02/5-horrible-punishment-mistakes-that-cost-teachers-their-influence-and-credibility

Base on the picture, i think the punishment is not relevant anymore as student who talks in class are the one seek attention from the teacher. Children are quite a handful but if they want to talk then just let them talk and express their feeling. It is better to have an interactive class rather than having a class which only the teacher is talking. But it does not mean that the students could talk every second and every minutes during class. A teacher should know how to control them and let them know when is the right time to talk and when is not.

Teachers should always consider and decide the best punishment for their students and make sure it is not severe. I believed the teachers know their students well when they decided to punish them. Teachers would not punish their students for no reasons. So, I totally agree as it is a reminder for the students to always be good in class.
-Qistina Najmi-

I agree to the punishment of writing a line many times because i dont see it as a punishment but a lesson that is benefitial. This is because i personally feel it is not harmful to the students physically nor mentally. Some may argue that it affects the students phychologically as they will face embarrassment. However, i believe it isn't right to pamper the students too much where students are treated like royalties. Thus, it is alright for them to feel a little embarrassment and to help them to learn to be strong mentally to face greater challenges in future. Many children who are pampered grew up to be very sensitive and having a weak mind when great challenges arise.
Secondly, writing a line repeatedly helps the student remember because doing something repeatedly will help long term memory. This is a very effective way to teach them.
Therefore, i believe this way of teaching a student is effective and i strongly agree to its application in classes.

From the picture, I think that doing that kind of punishment are not relevant. First of all in the picture, the student need to write "I will not talk in class" . I believe that the student that talk in class will benefit both the teacher and the student. In learning, it was supposed to include communication between the students and also the teachers. If we ask a student, to not talk in class, how will he/she learn?

Other than that, I also believe that during a lesson, if the student talk even with their friends, I think that it is part of lesson. Sometime when student could not understand the lesson, they prefer to ask their friend or deskmate first before ask the teacher.

And, if the student decide to talk with their friend about other things that does not involve with the lesson, that is because they are boring with the lesson. So, the one who need to change is not the student but the teacher. The teacher should change the way of teaching to make it more interesting for the student.

The punishment on writing things such as what in the picture actually wasted time as I strongly believe that it did not benefit the student. The student might even hate the lesson more and will lost their interest towards the subject. So, I strongly disagree with that kind of punishment.
(Amirah Sahira)

However, I do disagree if students are being punished this way just because they are talking in class. Being talkative is not wrong. Maybe the problem comes from the lesson which makes the students feel bored and start talking to each other. Thus, teachers must have the ability to control the classes and use variety style of teaching to avoid this problem instead of punishing the students.
(Aqilah)

I disagree with that kind of punishment because of some specific reasons. Punishment is a need to give the student a lesson for their misbehavior sometimes but basically it should be a more relevant punishment depends on mistakes they have done. Teachers face a tough job as they have to deal with many students in one time so if their students misbehave at some point they need to give a break and think rationally on how to tackle them. Not everything they did need a punishment. Just like in the picture, it is irrelevant to punish the student by writing "lines" just for talking in the class because the student is a grown up child who has the gift of gab that makes them being talkative.

Other than that, one of the best ways to teach the students to accept responsibility for their mistakes and behavior is to
use logical consequences instead of punishment. Logical consequences are intended to teach students the hows and whys of good decisions, rather than making them sorry for making a bad choice. So, this could gives benefits to both side, teachers and students. The teachers would not face any consequences in future for punishing the students and the students would not feel lost interest in studying and go to school.
(FATIHAA)

I really disagree with this kind of punishment for children. As a teacher, i dont see the necessity to embarass or humilinate a young child with a young mind just because he or she talked. Communication is not a sin or mistake that needs to be punished as long it does not cause a scene in class. Communication should be encouraged. We can just talk softly to the student and let him notice their own action if its a mistake. Educating this way is definitely better than dominating. Students will feel more attached to you than fear along their learning journey.
