Tundra is the coldest of all the biomes. It is noted for its frost-molded landscapes, extremely low temperatures, little precipitation, poor nutrients, and short growing seasons. Dead organic material functions as a nutrient pool. Like many other biomes, tundra has many dangers that threaten it's land, animals and plants. Some of these include; Human construction, Melting, Ozone depletion, and global warming. The tundras that cover a tenth of Earth's land are essentially frozen bogs with little vegetation diversity. But these are among the most sensitive habitats in the world. Because it is so sensitive, it needs more help in it's protection against harsh threats, this is why it needs more attention than it receives.

The wildlife found in tundras include the polar bear, the musk fox, the Arctic hare, the Arctic fox, the caribou, and the snowy owl. There are around 400 different plants that grow in the tundra biome. Some of these plants are the Bearberry, Labrador Tea, Diamond Leaf, Arctic Willow, Caribou Moss, Tufted Saxifrage, and the Pasque Flower.

There are many groups of people who live on these tundras still today, and of these people , there are three distinct groups. The Inuit, the Innu, and the Yakut. The Inuit live along the coast and hunt caribou, seal, whales and fish. The Innu are hunters who are experts in making skin clothing. Many Innu experienced starvation in the 1950's. The Yakut live in Siberia tundras. They spend their days fishing, which is the primary economic activity, and hunting which they do primarily for the furs.

How has food production changed in the biome?

Since the tundra has a cold climate, it is hard to grow fruits and vegetables there. The people in tundra biomes usually hunt in order to satisfy their hunger. Animals who live in the tundra have special adaptations to survive. Some animals in the tundra are adapted to the climate by breeding and raising their young in the summer. Many animals hibernate, or sleep during the worst part of winter to minimize energy loss. Because animals of the tundra are generally moving away often, this biome's population is constantly changing. Other than that, the food production has not changed much.
