This condition typically develops due to several interrelated factors, with the most significant being:</p><p>Obesity and excess weight, particularly abdominal fat, which is strongly associated with insulin resistance where cells don't respond properly to insulin.</p><p>Other important contributing factors include:</p><ul><li><p>Sedentary lifestyle with insufficient physical activity</p></li><li><p>Genetic predisposition and family history</p></li><li><p>Advancing age (risk increases after 45)</p></li><li><p>Poor diet high in refined carbohydrates and sugars</p></li><li><p>Ethnicity (higher risk in certain populations including Black, Hispanic, Native American, and Asian American people)</p></li><li><p>History of gestational diabetes or prediabetes</p></li><li><p>Certain medical conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome</p></li></ul><p>While genetic factors play a role in susceptibility, lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, and maintaining a healthy weight are the most modifiable risk factors for preventing Type 2 diabetes.</p>]]></description>

It was designed for people who have prediabetes or are at risk for type 2 diabetes but don't already have diabetes.</p><p>A trained Lifestyle Coach leads the program. They help you change certain lifestyle habits, like eating healthier, reducing stress, and getting more physical activity. The program also includes group support from others who share your goals and struggles. It's delivered both in person and online.</p><p>This lifestyle change program is not a fad diet or an exercise class. And it's not a quick fix. It's a yearlong program focused on long-term changes and lasting results</p><p>A year might sound like a long commitment, but learning new habits, gaining new skills, and building confidence takes time. As you eat better and become more active, you'll notice changes in how you feel. You may even notice changes in how you look.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Skeletal muscles, which make up most of the muscles that move your body, play a key role in type 2 diabetes. In healthy people, when insulin is released after eating, it signals these muscles to absorb sugar from the blood for energy or storage. This process accounts for most of the body's sugar use. In type 2 diabetes, muscle cells stop responding properly to insulin (called insulin resistance), so they absorb less sugar from the bloodstream. This happens partly because special sugar transporters (called GLUT4) don't move to the cell surface as they should. Since muscle makes up about 40% of your body weight, when muscles can't properly take in sugar, blood sugar levels rise significantly, which is a main feature of diabetes.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The pancreas is responsible for regulating blood sugar levels in the body by producing insulin and glucagon. Inside the pancreas, there are clusters of cells called islets of Langerhans, which contain beta cells that produce insulin. Insulin helps cells in your liver, muscle, and fat tissues absorb glucose from the bloodstream to be used for energy or stored for later use. In healthy individuals, the pancreas will continuously monitor the body's blood sugar levels, and will facilitate whether to release insulin when blood sugar levels are high or produce glucogen when blood sugar levels are low. Glucogen will then signal the liver to release stored glucose into the bloodstream to bring up blood sugar to a normal level. </p><p>In someone who has type 2 diabetes, the pancreas is working harder to produce more insulin due to the resistance in the body's cells. Within insulin resistance, the muscle, fat, and liver cells are failing to absorb enough glucose and forces the pancreas to produce higher levels of insulin. Over time as the pancreas tries to keep up with the demand for more insulin, this can lead to beta cell dysfunction as they can become exhausted from the overproduction of insulin. As these beta cells are becoming more and more impaired, impaired insulin secretion occurs leading to persistent high blood sugar. </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Diabetes can carry many negative effects, obesity is a common one since it can either cause this condition or occur as a result of it. Insulin resistance causes the body's cells to not properly respond to insulin and in turn causes the pancreas to compensate by producing more insulin. But with more and more insulin being produced and circulated, this can lead to the promotion of fat storage in the body particularly in the abdomen region and is known as visceral fat. Insulin resistance can also impair the body's ability to break down this stored fat. When insulin levels get low, the body's natural response is to break down fat for energy, however with the resistance, fat break down becomes far less efficient and causes fat to continuously accumulate. Type 2 diabetes can also lead someone to have an increased appetite due to hormonal changes caused by a leptin resistance. Leptin is a hormone that works by regulating appetite and energy balance by signaling to the brain when the body has enough energy stored. But, within someone who has type 2 diabetes, a leptin resistance can occur causing the body to not respond to the "full" signal and can make someone feel an increase in hunger. This further driving weight gain and repeats a bad cycle of retaining weight. </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Part 2:</p><p>A change or loss of vision as a result of type 2 diabetes is known as 'Diabetic Retinopathy'. Diabetic retinopathy can be diagnosed by seeing an eye doctor when any changes to vision are observed. Changes to vision can include new trouble reading or difficulty seeing faraway objects. It is recommended for someone who has type 2 diabetes to get their eye exams at least once a year.          <description><![CDATA[<p>Part 3:</p><p>Diabetic retinopathy is caused by high blood sugar due to type 2 diabetes. Damage to nerves occurs across the entire body, but this specifically damages the nerves in one's retinas and causes blocked blood vessels. Diagnosing diabetic retinopathy can be done by a simple dilated eye exam performed by an eye doctor. Treatments include medicines and injections to help lower the swelling of blood vessels behind they eye, and in worse cases surgery may be needed to reduce swelling or clear blockages/scars in one's eyes. Unfortunately, if enough damage has been done, people can lose their vision in one or both eyes. When blood sugar levels are poorly managed, the body struggles to convert glucose into energy, leading to feelings of exhaustion. Additionally, the body may use energy to expel excess glucose through increased urination, resulting in dehydration and further contributing to fatigue. Other factors, such as hormonal imbalances and inflammation caused by diabetes, can also sap energy levels. Hence, persistent fatigue in individuals with diabetes may signal the need for better blood sugar control and overall management of the condition.          <description><![CDATA[<p>Lifestyle modifications for type 2 diabetes will include regular exercise, healthy eating, weight management, and stress management. </p><p>When thinking of type of treatment and approximate cost involved in lifestyle modifications for type 2 diabetes it would include a possible gym membership, coaching, working with dietician, buying healthy food options, and possible therapist. While it would be challenging to determine an exact cost since some treatments could be optional and may only last for a season, like working with a dietitian and therapist, until you acquired the skills needed to be successful. Costs of living are also vast around the country. An estimated cost would average probably around an extra couple hundred dollars a month to cover grocery shopping for healthy food choices, a gym membership, and working with professionals who can better help the condition you're facing with support.</p><p>Some insurance plans will cover the use of a dietician. Different employers do often offer gym memberships through the company or reimbursement of monthly memberships to join a gym. The use of a therapist may also be covered by insurance, but if not therapist offer sliding scale for payment of their services to make things more affordable.</p><p>The long-term consequences if treatment in these areas is not preferred would be masking the issue. Even if medication is used if no lifestyle changes occur the end result will be loss of quality of life.</p>]]></description>

Walking is a wonderful way to introduce physical activity that is low impact and relatively easy for most to establish into their health routine. I give walking a 5 in difficulty because if someone were to have neuropathy which is weakness, numbness, or pain in the feet because of nerve damage related to type 2 diabetes, then even walking could pose as a challenge as a way to be active.</p><p>A personal trainer and even a physical therapist would be able to serve as a professional to help with this change.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Pre-diabetic screening can help prevent or delay the development of type 2 diabetes by allowing for early detection and allow intervention through lifestyle changes. Early diagnosis enables individuals to make healthier choices, possibly preventing or even reversing pre-diabetes and reducing the risks of long-term complications in the future.</p><p>There are several challenging factors for getting screened early for type 2 diabetes. These include effectiveness of screening methods in various settings, the lack of universal diagnostic criteria, and the concerns for over diagnosing and over treatment.          <description><![CDATA[<p>Insulin pumps are worn as a way to receive treatment for diabetes as the body alerts the device that insulin is needed to control blood sugars and bring into normal range. It is constantly delivering a basal rate of insulin, and it can also deliver bolus doses of insulin before meals, as needed. This helps manage blood sugar levels in the most effective way rather than multiple daily injections of insulin.</p><p>While insulin pumps are beneficial for the control of diabetes, they can have several side effects, including diabetic ketoacidosis related to pump malfunction, hypoglycemia from over-delivery, and skin complications related in infections and irritation at the infusion site.          <description><![CDATA[<p>This intervention known as the sugar sweetened beverage tax imposes a fee on drinks that contain added sugars in hopes to reduce consumption and improve healthier choices in public health. This primarily targets the policy and law level by influencing not only prices, but hopefully consumer's choices and behaviors. Some challenges to this implementation of this policy may include initial resistance from the beverage industry and even public resistance due to increase of prices on familiar drinks for some. There could also arise concerns that this could be predominantly targeting low-income populations. This proposal targets both the policy and law and environmental levels.
