•Trained ECE’s in the community means more qualified local educators

•Less need to bring in workers from outside of Baker Lake (children will know our local educators/families better)

•Children benefit from educators who understand the local culture, language and families

•Families feel more welcomed/comfortable bringing their children are cared for by the people from their own community

•Residents don’t need to leave home to study

•Children grow up with strong connections to their identity and community

• Locals don’t need to leave their hometown to attend the program, which eases the student’s mind (less worrying about moving to a new community, meeting new people and living in a new place, which can sometimes be stressful)

• Qualified local employees (children will know people from their community which creates a sense of belonging)

• Families of the children attending ECE feel comfortable because they know who they’ll be bringing their child to take care of them

• Locals can teach children the Inuktitut language in our own dialect (as this program is teaching us a different dialect) instead of bringing in other workers from outside our community

We don’t have to travel to get our ECE licensed. We are lucky to do it in our hometown. Daycare doesn’t need to find different employees. We can do half days at school and half days at work.

We can see our co workers learning new things at school about being an ECE.

Less stressful for our director to find new or more employees. Teaching us to be open to one another.

• Having this program for more education on how to be successful educators I.e attending class and teaching the children at our workplace.

• Teaches the children of all developmental domains, learning to communicate, the early experiences teaches them to have confidence and to follow routines for early schooling attendees.

• More children to attend in our spaces in daycare

• More independency and life skills for children attending at daycare

We gather locals to encourage them to take our team; we don’t need to ask other outside communities if they will like to join (if they want they could). It also helps the parents of our enrolled children to get them to work and do their own thing and outside of their work.
