This song has made the billboard top charts, been nominated for the Oscars, and has been published all around the world. These two have made a story that connects with the world today. On how we all treat each other and how we look at the world towards each other. The audience of this song is men and women but also Lady Gaga herself. The purpose is to send out a message to men and women on how we all need to speak and listen to each other and come together among communication. How one day a relationship can seem perfect but the next day it's not. In the video you can see a lot of separation and almost depression going on through that because two cant come together. But when they come together and work things through and are their for each other it all seems to grow. As they are sending a message to the world, wanting them to understand something. How this world is different and we all need to come together to communicate. And Lady Gaga went through something in her life that she wants the world to understand and how she over came it. 
The first one i noticed was kind of right at the start when Cooper started singing and he said "Tell me something girl. Are you happy in this modern world? Or do you need more? Is there something else you're searching for?". This contributes to ethos as Lady Gaga has gone through a lot trying to figure everything out as she feels the need to figure things out for other people first rather then herself. This part by Cooper is him reaching out to her making sure everything is okay, because to him he is concerned what she is going through and if she has everything she needs to feel safe. And would she be okay if he wasn't around?
Another example of ethos is "I'm falling, in all the good times i find myself. Longing for change, and in the bad times i fear myself." This is a section of lyrics where Lady Gaga kind of expresses how she feels about herself and what she wishes would change. Another one that i found "Crash through the surface, where they can't hurt us, We're far from the shallow now" this expresses that anything you overcome you should make you feel good about yourself and safe.  The music video goes really well with the lyrics as they show so much emotion through the whole piece. They really sold this. They included pieces from the movies and put it into the music video and it really goes well with the lyrics.
