The Montgomery Bus Boycott was a civil rights protest that lasted a year and 16 days. The bus boycott started December 5, 1955 and ended on December 20, 1956. The bus boycott in Montgomery was to protest against the Jim Crow laws and segregation in the south. In the south, black people were forced to sit in the back of the bus and allow the white people to sit in the front; it was segregated. During the boycott, all those participating decided to not ride the bus at all, this caused the bus companies to run out of money, and finally desegregate so they could get more customers.
Source: Wikipedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montgomery_bus_boycott
