It may shock you to learn that over 1.1 billion people live in urban slums worldwide. By definition, urban slums are “densely populated areas characterized by inadequate housing, poor sanitation, and limited access to basic services such as clean water and healthcare.” This is mainly caused by problems such as rapid urban growth and limited affordable household items. This issue that originated in the early nineteen century is only going to get worse, as it already is. Here in the UN, we aim to fix this problem.

It may come as a surprise that the conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo remains one of the deadliest humanitarian crises in the world today. Over seven million people have been displaced, with millions more lacking access to food, clean water, and healthcare.

Eritrea has faced many economic troubles due to its own past struggles with financial independence. For those reasons, we have not been directly involved in the Democratic Republic of Congo-Rwanda Conflict. However, we still believe in international peace and have strong values in hospitality, unity, and gender equality.

Though not a fully developed nation, Eritrea believes that every country can contribute meaningfully to this conflict. We can help provide housing for refugees, access to clean water and food, as well as healthcare and education, on our massive open lands! These are only a few Ideas Eritrea has in contributing to this issue, and with the help and support of the international community and the UN, we can all overcome this problem together.

Most, if not all, fear the elements and the dangers of the streets, especially at night. People can feel alone and abandoned, tirelessly searching their route back home. We ask the delegates if they ever felt this way, even if it’s in a grocery store or a shopping center after losing their parents. This is how the homeless feel every single day, spending time in raw elements and trying to find a way to keep surviving.

Especially in Iceland, an environment with icy weathers and natural disasters, often 500 volcanic eruptions per week! Minor eruptions or not, it’s difficult for the homeless to live in this undesired situation. In 2018, the government made this a top priority and passed a legislation to build 25 homes for the homeless population, with a rent of $363 that makes it financially accessible. Today, people still utilize these shelters for short-term housing and decrease the population that sleeps on the streets!

Iceland calls upon the committee to have open arms and allow us to offer help with sheltering and finance. More details can be discussed during moderated or unmoderated caucuses if you wish to work with us!

While many in the UN celebrated Kosovo's independence, Greece viewed the move with serious concern, believing it set a dangerous precedent. 

   Greece's opposition stems from its unwavering commitment to the principle of territorial integrity—a cornerstone of international law. Recognizing Kosovo's unilateral declaration of independence was seen as undermining the territorial integrity of Serbia, a country with which Greece shares deep historical and strategic ties

Greece's position reflects a commitment to a stable and predictable international order, where borders are respected and sovereignty is not unilaterally challenged. We must continue to champion international law and support solutions that respect the sovereignty of all nations in the region. This involves a combination of international diplomacy and law, educational initiatives, and civil society engagement, ensuring that such a move is not repeated
