Canaan Elementary School provides the best material and learning system for all subjects, ideally for each grade level. English, math, science, history, and art are our foundations. In our English lessons, students learn how to read and write. Goals are set every day in 1rs, 2nd, and 3rd grade for each student to practice spelling and reading new words, along with writing. Furthermore years, students will choose one book to read per week and speak about it in class. And each week, they hand in a written report talking about how each day went for them and how they felt regarding the school to encourage freewriting and expression. Math and science lessons involve games and music to help with the content learning. And, history teachings are focused on American and global experiences, along with worldwide holidays and important dates that must be remembered and taught about. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, we have 1 hour of artwork where students decide among painting, drawing, coloring, or crafting. We also supply our students with meaningful lessons. Teachings about different nationalities and cultures, new languages, social interactions, religions, the importance of our Planet Earth, and how to protect it, and manners are essential steps to prepare them for the future.

Parents are a big part of the Canaan Elementary family. We value all moments with parents, and we plan on involving them in our activities along with students frequently. Teacher and parent conferences happen once a month, where teachers speak with parents one on one to express the fantastic results their child has demonstrated, or to explain how they plan on helping their child even more. We will host Game Day, where students of all grades interact in games and fun competitions associated with the school material they have learned so far. Parents are welcome to participate and be their partners, or watch and be apart of the cheering team! Bounce houses, hot dogs and popcorn stands, and face painting are a part of the fun. Mother’s and Father’s day gathering to present plays, songs, and artwork inspired by their loved ones. Furthermore, we have a Multicultural event day, where the classroom shows two ethnicities with food, music, dances, special demonstration of attire, or customs. Each parent and student of certain nationalities will be given t-shirts to represent their own culture. Everyone is welcome to visit all the classrooms and learn about the cultural variety in our world. Lastly, we have Job Day, where parents are invited to visit classrooms and speak of their everyday jobs to encourage our little ones future decisions in their life careers. All of that not including our seasonal plays and dance presentations.
