         <description><![CDATA[<div><br></div><div>The annexation of Bosnia by Austria-Hungary scared many Balkan countries at the time. Fearful that Austria-Hungary would continue to expand in eastern Europe, Serbia organized an alliance called the Balkan League. In 1913, the Balkan League  gained control over the remaining Ottoman-held territory in Europe.  Serbia emerged as a strong military leader in the region.<br><br></div>]]></description>

Slowly, more places started getting recognized as countries:<br><br>Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, and Croatia were recognized by The United Nations. (1992)<br>Macedonia got admitted to the UN. Czechoslovakia split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The EU was also formed around this time. (1993)<br>EU admitted the Czech Republic, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, and Slovenia. (2004)<br>Montenegro declared independence from Serbia.
