My radiant stream by Anne Jones https://padlet.com/jonesan/8unvcu5mpj9m Made with a quick smile en-us 2018-03-08 14:46:05 UTC 2018-03-08 14:47:39 UTC hello@padlet.com Common Sense Educator - Reflection jonesan https://padlet.com/jonesan/8unvcu5mpj9m/wish/239677323 I am a middle school media specialist and have been teaching digital citizenship lessons for about 10  years now.  I have used Common Sense Media curriculum for most of that time.  It has been very interesting to see how usage and habits have changed over this period of time.  I did a lesson this year with 8th graders on maintaining a healthy social media diet.  The focus was on the positives of technology and social media, but more importantly, we focused on the amount of TIME spent online.  Students don’t realize just how much time they devote to online interactions.  I even suggested adding an app to their phones which tracks usage.  Having students pause and consider how much time they spend online, and the things they are giving up by doing that, helps them to reconsider their choices.  
 
Staying on top of what students are doing outside of school is so important so you can meet them “where they are� with messages, activities and suggestions.  Every year I have to revise my approach since technology and trends change so fast!
