My first impression of the this church was how detailed and big it was. I was most amazed about the detail since it was built in the 1880s, and although it has similar structure of every other church, it is very different due to the detail of the church. The design element that stood out the most for me was probably the stained glass windows or the nature theme. The windows were very colorful and particular. In addition, the entire church is covered by statues, trees, and other nature-like designs.

The first thing I noticed about the church was how imposing and huge it is. I couldn’t imagine what it would be like to walk by and see such a magnificent sight. The attention to detail on the sculptures inside the church stood out to me the most. The time and work that it must’ve taken to make it so intricate only added to its grandeur. Each of the statues was clearly sculpted with a lot of care, making them seem both realistic and divine. For example, the nativity was beautifully designed and looks extremely lifelike.

Gaudí used the idea that God was the first creator when making the design of the church.

My first impression of the La Sagrada Familia was it’s immense size and it’s eye opening design. The design element that stood out the most to me was the large variety of colors that Antoni Gaudi used to paint the walls and ceilings of the church. For example, I saw that some of the ceiling was painted light blue which, in my opinion, makes it look like the sky. Also, some of the pillars and walls were painted with a rich shade of green, which made it look like trees in a forest. It really is a sight to behold.

Also, the pope is way ahead of us. Most of us don’t know what’s going through his mind when he rubs oil on whatever that is. They should not have as many naked Jesus as they do. Instead, put St. Francis up there with the nature and the fruits.

Even on the outside of the church, the amount of detail is quite breathtaking. This would definitely explain why this is the longest architectural project in the world.

For a church built in 1888 it includes nature and Christian beliefs into one. On the inside it is so modern with the stain glass and the clean edges on the pillars. On the out side it shows that is is old with the color turning black but that doesn’t stop it from hiding its beauty.

My 1st impression of the church was the intricate details of the outside of the church. On the outside there are so many sculptures of animals and religious figures. One side of the church is clearly newer than the other side. Based on the designs the newer side looks more modern and clean. The older side has more designs and sculptures attached to it. They both show themes of Gothic architecture such as the rose windows on the newer section as well as how tall it is on the older side. In the interior the Gothic architecture prevails through the long columns and through the stained glass showed the theme of nature

The design element that impressed me the most was the thousands of statues that cover the exterior of the church. These statues clearly tell the story of Jesus’ life.

Gaudi had vivid dream for his art, he wanted it to be perfection. We see his poise and comfort when making this in the beautiful stories literally embedded into the church’s exterior. While Gaudi unfortunately was never able to witness the completion of his life’s work, it is our duty to finish it in a manner that would make him proud.

I also learned that the Church has three facades, Nativity, Passion and Glory the life of Jesus, from his birth, to his death and resurrection. After looking more closely to the design of the building, the element of design that impressed me the most would be the structure and form, and the way the sculptures are imbedded into the walls of the Church, because in a way it represents the way Christ is the foundation of the Christian religion.

I learned that when Antoni Gaudí took over the construction project, he pioneered his own techniques and structural systems. For example, before he became lead architect, La Sagrada Familia started off as a small Neo-Gothic church. As Gaudí developed his own style, the church quickly became unique, with strong religious and patriotic themes. Another thing I learned was that Gaudí often based his final structures on smaller models since his method was mostly trial and error. As he experimented with new designs, he had to test the structures on a smaller scale first. After trying all these different ideas, he would eventually decide on one and have it be constructed on the real Sagrada Familia.I was most impressed by the Nativity Facade because of how well it portrayed Gaudi’s unique style. It incorporated nature imagery, Gothic symbolism and Modernista asymmetry. It’s also amazing how so much detail has stayed after all this time.

Two things I learned from the video was that Gaudi strived for the Sagrada Familia to resemble a forest, the columns branching out at the top, like trees. He was very devoted to God, and thought that the forest was the best place to become connected with God. In addition, he was also obsessed with his architecture, even sleeping on the building site. The design element that impressed me the most was its huge and grand size, along with its immense and very intricate details. All of them were made by hand and required lots of patience and time.

Gaudí’s dream for the construction was to copy it off of a forest, with grand pillars representing the enormous trees erecting from the Earth and natural shapes with no sharp lines or corners to symbolize the unique manner of nature. With that being said, another piece of knowledge I gained from the readings was the dedication and love for the church Antoni Gaudí displayed. Gaudí would spend his days at the church building, managing, and living in the church, that was until his unfortunate death. After his departure from this world, he was buried beneath the crypt of the church, this decision goes to show the dedication Gaudí had for his great project.

Another thing that I learned from the readings was that, Gaudi’s method was based on trial and error, so he used models for almost everything he designed. He also did this in the La Sagrada Familia, where he often made scale models to test out different shapes and structures that he would later use in his constructions. The design element of the La Sagrada Familia that impressed me the most was the statues on the exterior that recreated some of the stories in the Bible, including a statue of a man carrying a child on his back which, in my opinion, might be the recreation of the Israelites’ journey through the desert after being banished by the pharaoh in Egypt.

The second thing I learned is that the nativity Facade was the only one section Gaudí completed. It is the best example of he’s original vision of the church, therefore, it’s the template for future architects. The internal columns are the most impressive design elements to me. They look like big trees supporting the dome. Their ever-changing surface texture is the result of a combination of multiple geometric figures which made them look great and make me feel more sacred.
