Sikkim is also one of the least densely populated Indian state, with only 86 persons per square kilometer. There are three ethnic groups in Sikkim-Lepchas, Bhutias and Nepalese. The three ethnic groups of people represents a synthesis of three different cultures, traditions and religions in Sikkim. Due to a century- long population influx from Nepal, the majority of Sikkim's residents are of Nepali ethnic origin. The people of Sikkim are very honest,   hardworking and concerned about nature and that is the biggest reason behind it being the cleanest state, people don't litter things on the road and keep the environment clean.

Buddhism is followed by 27.4% of the population, while Christianity is followed by 9.9%. There are many Hindu temples throughout the state.
    Vajrayana Buddhism, which accounts for 27.3 percent of the population, is Sikkim's second-largest, yet most prominent religion. Prior to Sikkim's becoming a part of the Indian Union, Vajrayana Buddhism was the state religion under the Chogyal. Sikkim has 75 Buddhist Monastries, the oldest dating back to the 1700s The public and visual aesthetics of Sikkim are executed in shades of Vajrayana Buddhism and Buddhism plays a significant role in public life, even among Sikkim's majority Nepali Hindu population.
    Christians in Sikkim are mostly descendants of Lepchas who were converted by British missionaries in the late 19th century, and constitute around 10 percent of the population. As of 2014, the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Sikkim is the largest Christian denomination in Sikkim.

The predominant communities are the LEPCHAS, BHUTIAS and NEPALESE. In urban areas, many plainsmen have also settled and they are almost engaged in business and Government service. Because of the development activities in the state, like the construction of roads, bridges and buildings a small part of the population consists of migrant laborers from the plains and Nepal.
    Living together harmoniously, the Sikkimese Bhutias and Tibetans display the cultural, social and linguistic commonness in between.
     Sikkim is like a beautiful bouquet that is adorned with the amazing colors and essence of different flowers, in the form of attractive folk dances, customs and traditions of different tribes and castes.
