Beginning

First the Esates General, what all started it. This was split up into 3 different estates, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. The 1st estate was made up of the church officials, it was the highest estate and made up 1% of the population. Next was the 2nd estate, this was made up by the nobles and made up 10% of the population. Last was the 3rd estate, they were made up by the commoners, were very poor, payed all of the taxes, and made up 89% of the population. When they would vote on things each estate got 1 vote, this was a problem because the 1st and 2nd estates would team up against the 3rd estate so they would lose everytime. The National Assembly was soon later created by the 3rd estate, representation based on population. This means that instead of each estate getting one vote each person will get a vote, 1st and 2nd estates will not like this because the 3rd estate over powers them in population. The 3rd estate got locked out of the place where they voted at so they also created the Tennis Court Oath where they took an oath to not disband until there was a constitution for the free people written. The king Lous XVI did not want to let them back in but he did anyways.

The Storming of the Bastille happened because the commoners felt that King Louis XVI was trying to take away their rights. This created fear in the National Assembly and will be dissolved. The commoners attempted to to rise up against the soldiers. They were successful in freeing political prisoners and gaining weapons from the armory. The March on the Palace of Versailles happened with mostly women. They were upset about the price of bread and it is rumored that the queen was hoarding all of the wheat. They also blame the queen for spending all of their money. This is justifiable in certain aspects, they were right that they should not be struggling to afford bread and that the queen should not be spending their money. They were also quite aggressive but if they weren't then they would never get their point across and nothing would change. The legislative government ran by the government working with the people. In the beginning this was a good stable idea but as time went on it started to fall down, there was weak leadership and the people had never had a government without a monarchy before. Robespierre is in charge of the First Republic. The First Republic supported peoples rights but it was also responsible for executing around 70,000 people, this happened if you spoke out against the revolution.

The Directory contains an upper house and a lower house. The lower house is in charge or creating the laws and the upper house is in charge of accepting the laws proposed by the lower house. Soon later Napoleon rose and he contributed political changes. He created the Napoleon code which simplifies laws for France, he eliminated the estate system which was unfair, he allows freedom of religion, he restores a centralized government to France, he increased education for the people, he improved relationships with the pope, and he sells sold the Louisiana Purchase to help fund campaigns. After all of this France dominated continental Europe, Napoleon installed his own rulers of conquered nations, and he made his own brother the King of Spain.
