Burke believed in prescriptive rights and that those rights were 'God given'.
Edward Burke the father of English conservatism argued that the ruling classes should have a large role to play in politics for a number of reasons:

1.  Don’t work therefore they have time and have money meaning there is no element of self interest.
2.  As their ancestors had ruled there was an accumulation of knowledge.
3.  The ruling class was seen as superior and the best people to rule for the common good. Notion became known as “paternalism” by their opponents.

Conservative thoughts vary as UK conservatism is based around Edmund Burke’s ideologies. They believe that the desire for power is the primary human urge which isn’t necassarily a negative thing as drive helps society flourish for example businesses. So it ultimately comes down to control. So people need to know their place in society. Hence why the conservatives emphasise social order- sacrificing liberty in the cause of social order as order will ensure stability as liberty presents individuals with choices and can generate change and uncertainty. 
Evolution not Revolution- the conservatives don’t like change as they would argue ‘to do nothing may be more preferable to doing something’.
The conservatives ground their ideas in tradition, adopting a pragmatic approach. 
The conservatives also believe in hierarchy and authority- as society naturally categorises individuals through establishment of social graduations. They also believe that social equality is undesirable and unachieveable. As Burke argues there is a ‘natural aristocracy’ and talent and leadership are innate qualities that cannot be acquired through self advancement. 
Authority- leadership and discipline are crucial. As various classes that make up society have specific roles; authoritarian conservatives state authority is absolute and unquestionable although other conservatives may argue that authority should be exercised with limits.
It’s also believed that some people are born with greater ability than others - Burke believed that there’s a social responsibility that’s the working class may not like their living standards, but they do not have the livelihoods of other men resting on theit Shoulders.
Individualism- choice, opportunity and self- fulfilment. The state has an opportunity to enhance and improve people’s lives. Which also implies a sense of privacy. The best environment for individualism is state of control a society ruled by law.

It has advocated less government regulation and more tax cuts, relying on the  reasonably free hand of the private sector to provide economic benefits. Conservatives oppose various government imposed drags on the economy.
