         <description><![CDATA[<p><br></p><p>Burnout is the exertion from duties that causes exhaustion over time in a profession. The symptoms of burnout are very noticeable. They involve a lack of motivation and concern for one's role and duties. An individual experiencing burnout in counseling can lose interest in performance and become unenthused. Burnout can cause a counselor to develop a cynical behavior towards clients, colleagues, and the Profession.</p><p><br></p><p>Compassion Fatigue occurs when counselors are mentally and emotionally affected by concern. Counselors deal with a variety of clients with a variety of issues. If a counselor focuses on clients' problems and issues resolving them, they will develop compassion fatigue. Symptoms of compassion fatigue include depression, effect on personal life, and unwanted thoughts. </p><p><br></p><p>Secondary Trauma is the transformation of a traumatic experience transmitted from client to counselor. It can cause a client to develop compassion fatigue and burnout. Exposure to secondary Trauma can create physical effects that can stem from sleep deprivation, loss of appetite, and abnormal behaviors. Secondary Trauma gets worse when a counselor is not able to help whomever the trauma is affecting. </p><p><br></p><p>Self-care is important to adopt because it will secure the essential things like family, occupation, and self. It's also beneficial to have a routine that involves self-care to give you morale and momentum in your livelihood. One of the most effective forms of self-care is physical and mental health activities. If you are taking care of your mind and body, it will develop healthy habits and performance. </p><p><br></p><p>My self-care habits will include exercise and prayer in my counseling profession. Exercise gives me a boost of energy to perform at my best, forces me to eat a well-balanced diet, and gives me a great physique, which builds confidence and self-esteem. It will allow good health for longevity in my counseling profession. Prayer allows me to connect with a spiritual source that enables me to focus and stay on task. It allows me to have restraint and make bad decisions that can disrupt my life. I incorporate both fitness and church into my routine as well. It keeps me balanced and allows me to feel accomplished. I suggest that these habits will help support counselors physically, spiritually, and mentally. </p>]]></description>
