In 2008 Mount St. Helens stopped erupting which began in 2004. During the eruption many explosions occurred causing volcanic ash and gases to escape from the vent. Lava flowed slowly out during the eruption and formed a new dome. It pushed the Crater Glacier away causing the flow of lava to flow toward the breach created during the 1980 eruption. The flow of lava is still occurring today. There were no casualties during the latest eruption since it was mild and slow. The eruption gave Scientist a better understanding of the volcanoes behavior and possible impacts of future events.
