"Thread Bearing Witness is a textile based art project currently being undertaken by artist Alice Kettle in response to the current issue of migration. It is made up of several strands, one of which is the ‘Stitch a Tree Project’. This part of the project invited the wider community to stitch individual trees in response to the refugee crisis, a way of bringing individuals together to create discourse and to show solidarity for displaced people and asylum seekers across the globe.

Whilst many of the trees have been sent in from sewing groups, schools and individuals from around the world, the project was also set up for a time in the Winchester Discovery Centre. Here stitchers could come and sit and sew, discuss what migration and displacement meant to them, and watch the larger piece of work unfold."

https://alicekettle.co.uk/thread-bearing-witness-2/
