End of RR

my reaction to the end of the book was happy because of how the author wrapped up the book. In the beginning of the book rowley and Greg weren't talking to each other but at the end of the book they got their friendship back together. I also liked when his mom put he career "on hold"so she could spend time with her family. Throughout the book Greg didn't like his best friend and they never talked to each other. At the end of the book they started talking to each other again. If you dislike your friend because of something they did, you can talk it out or do something fun. I would recommend this book if you are trying to find a funny/weird book to read.

My thoughts on the book are sad because at the beginning of the book Jay ( the main character) his cat died, while Jay was feeding his cat the cat died. While reading this book more I found out that he was a senior in highschool. But something caught my eye while reading while Jay was playing video games his father came to tell him that his cousin Jun died. Jay’s father wouldn't tell him why Jay was so hurt by this because Jun, his cousin, was the only person that he could relate to. Jay went up to his bed and pulled out a shoe box under his bed and in the shoe box was a note from Jun. Jay read the note while slowly falling asleep. The next day his mom told him why his cousin died. When Jun ran away from home he started living on the streets, but while he was living on the streets he started to make bad decisions like drugs. This reminds me of my grandmother, because while she was outside someone was smoking and she breathed in the smoke and caught cancer and died. But when Jun was taking drugs the president Duterte wanted to stop all the people who were taking drugs so he sent out people to kill them and that's how his cousin Jun died, he got shot. Something that came up in my mind while reading that part of the book, why would the president kill them? giving them jail time was more reasonable. Duterte was a person that I disliked in the book so far. Reading the book I saw that the text was always matching the mood of the character so if the character was surprised it would be like “WHAT?” or if the character was sad it would look like “what.”. A prediction for what I have is that Jay is going to help stop the drug war like finding people and help them to stop making bad decisions. The reason why I started reading this book is because it takes place in the Philippines where my parents were from and I wanted to know more about what was happening in the Philippines.

Wow, this book is really making me feel like I'm also a part of the book. In RR#3 I predicted that the main character Jay would go to the Philippines to help stop the drug war, and I was right. He convinced his mom and dad, his mom tried to also convince Jay to go somewhere else like Europe, Spain and some other places that they haven’t gone to before. When I was reading that page I was scared for Jay because while he's in the Philippines he might die to the police. Jay took 2 days off of school to get prepared for the Philippines while randomly he got a message from an anonymous person. the anonymous person sent Jay 3 links, when he was about to block him the anonymous person sent him a photo of Jun. Jay was shocked and started texting him back and started asking him questions like “When was it taken?” “ Who took it?” “Where did you get this?”. And the anonymous person answered back and said “I was his friend.”. Jay started messaging him but no response. Jay opens up the link that he sent and it was all articles and peoples observations. When Jay opens the last link, he has never read this article before and it basically said that people get framed for taking drugs and then the police kill them without any evidence. This makes me wonder why? Just why would you kill someone without any evidence. Every new chapter I read makes me wonder what Jay is going to do next to help stop the drug war, but Jay also wants to find out how Jun died because from the articles it says they get framed or they die because the police suspects them.

When jay landed in Malia he wanted about twenty minutes for his tito (aunt) that he was expecting to get picked up by but he got picked up by his tita. He asked where Tito was and she replied that he was at work. When jay got in the car he asked “How do I think they are when Jun died about a week ago.” there was an awkward silence after that his aunt didn’t answer the question but she instead asked him a question “How was the flight?” This made me wonder why their family would just not care about their own child. When traffic happened, a girl came up to the window and Jay gave her money. When Jay closed the window his tita asked “You should of not done that.”

her reason why was because you can’t help everyone, even though you can’t help everyone it still can make a difference by helping one person out, this started making me dislike her. When they arrived at the house they made the guest room Jun’s room. They told that they would call him down when they had dinner ready, so Jay read all of the letters that Jun sent to him and went to bed. When he woke up and went down to dinner everyone was there and his tito. While they were having a normal conversation like “How was the flight?” “ How are your kuya’s and ate’s?” After a while Jay felt sick and asked to go back to his room and they said sure. but when he got back to his room he tried looking for all his letters but he couldn’t find any of them. I predicted that his tita stole all the letters from Jun because their family never wanted to hear from him again.

Mia and Jay meet up with her professor Brian Santos, who is a journalist, Mia and the professor talk to each other and Mia introduces Jay to the professor. When the professor and Jay shake hands the professor says “I’m sorry about your cousin.” Jay didn’t know what to say so he just replied with a “Me too.”.After they are finished talking the professor says “It should be safe since it’s daytime, but you never know.”. When the professor said that it made me wonder, was the Philippines really that bad of a place when the drug war was happening? After that they start to walk around the city right when they start walking they step over a stray dog. One thing that caught my eye was when the professor said “Tell me, Jason Reguero, are you willing to die to find out what happened to your cousin?” I think what the professor was trying to say is that it would almost cost you your life trying to find out how his cousin died and this also reminded me of my trying to save my friends in a video game. As they keep walking the streets start to get narrower. There are not just stray dogs on the streets, there are also cats, chicken and roosters. Jay starts to think about all of the health issues, safety hazards, the poverty and the hunger of the children and adults. Something that reminded me while reading was that my parents were poor while in the philippines so they had to work very hard to be where I am right now and I should be very grateful for everything that I have. They entered a basketball court which looked very nice with smooth pavement and looked like it had a new basketball rim. They had to enter a new passage which led them to stairs. The stairway was so small that you couldn’t even put your whole foot on it. This made me realize that the Philippines has rich places and also has poor places.

Right when I started to read, Jun said “I don’t speak much at dinner.” This reminded me of myself, I don’t talk a lot at dinner but I eat very slowly. Jun’s aunt Tita Chato always thought that he wasn’t talking because he was sad so she tried to cheer him up. She took him out to the patio and told him to sit down. His aunt brings out a small TV, and brings out a karaoke machine, and brings out a few extra chairs. Jun asked about the extra seats and his aunt said “It’s in case neighbors join us.”

When reading that, it shows that Filipinos love to do karaoke. Everytime there’s a party somewhere there is always our parents doing karaoke and they always sing loudly. When the karaoke menu song starts to play the neighbors start to come in, and they all introduce themselves to Jun. Jun’s aunt gave everybody beer and since Jun was old enough he could have one.The first person to sing was Gregory, Gregory stood up and demanded to clear a big amount of space for him, so they did while laughing. When the words came up Gregory started to sing and Jun even said that he had an impressive voice, his singing got everybody nodding their heads and smiling, when the song ended, everybody clapped for him which gathered more neighbors. When it was Jun’s time to sing he passed it on while finishing his beer, his aunt offered him another one, and Jun said “I’m having a good time and the first one’s making me feel warm inside.”. Gregory took the mic back and tried to get a redemption but once the song finished he got an 88 and his last score was 92 and everyone started to laugh. This made my heart feel warm because, even though in the Philippines people don’t have much they still have fun with what they have.

After they arrived at their campsite they unpacked all of their belongings, After everything was unpacked, their mother wanted to go on a hike. Everybody else didn’t want to since they just wanted to relax, but as soon as she said that she would lock up all of their electronics they all immediately stood up and went to go hike. It made no sense to me why they would rather go play on their phones than go on a hike since they are in the middle of the forest with no Wi-Fi. I think the point of going camping is to spend time with friends and family while all your friends are around the campfire eating smores and telling jokes to each other. After they finished their hiking trip they all packed up the trash and they remembered from the clerk the shop “hang up the food so the bear wouldn’t be able to reach it.” I didn’t really think that they would really listen to him but they really did which made me wonder if they really think that hanging up their leftovers would really trick the bear. Once they finished doing the “trick” they all went inside the RV to go to sleep, but they soon found out that their plan on tricking the bear worked but in a bad way. The bear reached for the food and tore down the plastic bag and ate all the food. Greg and his family were speechless for a while and started to scream , so they shot their flare gun out the RV right above the driver's seat. The workers came where they shot the flare gun and thought that it was a real emergency but instead of telling the workers that there was a bear, their father said that he burned his leg because he was trying to make smores, the workers got tired of them so they decided to kick them out of the campsite. This reminded me of my last camping trip where me and all of my friends were in a tent and we all created a rap song with all of us having to create our own lyrics, but we did not realize that we were being loud in the middle of the night so we got a noise warning, and if we got 1 more we would get kicked out.

While reading these pages, it reminded me a lot of my friend groups, because when I met all of my friends we all loved to hang out with each other and play together like they did in the book, they all hung out together while pranking people. But at page 180-190 things took a turn in their friendship, Greg’s friends all got caught pranking people and they were in big trouble and they had to clean up different spots in the camping spot. But instead of Greg’s friends accepting that they got caught, they blamed Greg that he was the reason why they were pranking people. That meant that Greg had to stay out of sight of their friends and the manager of the campsite because he would be in a lot of trouble. I can sometimes relate to this because me and my friends sometimes get into an argument, but the next day we act like nothing happened and go back to normal.

This book was taking place in his house during summer break. When he was in his house playing video games, his mom walked in and told him to stop playing games and go outside since it’s warm and nice outside. This sounded a lot like my mom always wanting me and my siblings to go outside when it’s summer and her favorite thing to do in summer is watering her plants and going on vacations. The main character Greg got forced into having to read over the summer which I hate doing because I hate reading and every time I read a book I get tired of reading the book, or if I want to keep reading the book I have to put something in the background while reading since it helps me focus. Greg also had a similar problem like when he reads a book he can’t focus while reading a book. Something I think is going to happen in this book is that Greg is finally going to find the right book for him and just be obsessed with the book.
