I'm a firm believer that everyone is a stakeholder in environmental issues, not just scientists or experts in that field, because everyone affects and is affected by the environment. Personally, I have already invested time in environmental issues by joining coastal cleanups and attending webinars about sustainability. I would like to continue investing time in these because I personally believe there are so many aspects about environmental issues that go overlooked, and misconceptions that continue to be perpetuated. For example, there is the recent trend of sustainable living that has caused a surge for people to buy metal straws and the like. While plastic usage is lessened, on the other hand, this metal straw trend increased the demand for mining and prompted mining companies to displace indigenous peoples from their lands. There is also the misconception that "humans are the disease of Earth." Indigenous peoples beg to differ, because most of the greenlands that remain healthy on the planet are under the care and protection of indigenous peoples. This proves that humans per se are not the disease, but the big corporations that capitalize and exploit the environment while putting on a facade to its consumers that they are an environment-friendly entity. I take this personally because I am one of those consumers, and I deserve to make informed decisions.

I believe that everyone is affected by climate change and other environmental issues like global warming and pollution. I used to go to high school in Clark Freeport Zone and I remember some of the mountains were converted into hotels and villas which meant less trees and resulted in more harm to the environment. This made me more interested in the state of our environment. I try my best to educate myself regarding recent developments in our environment and help spread awareness.

The continued growth of Davao City has shown me how many environmental resources have to be sacrificed for urban development. I believe we are nowhere yet near sustainable, and I think the public is still yet to fully value our environment as our country also struggles with other social issues. Living in Mindanao, I've been exposed to mining issues, illegal logging, and also illegal poaching. Although environmental awareness has improved, these issues still manage to come and go, so I believe that there always has to be a constant personal clamor by the public to ensure no violations can sneak through.

I'm based in Tagaytay, where I live with my community (Work of Mary) and work with youth in discernment. I'm able to connect from there through either Converge or PLDT at speeds ranging from 30 to 60 Mbps, depending on the day. That's about the same speed range for the PLDT line we have at my parents' house in Las Pinas, where I sometimes connect from.

As a public health advocate, I find much value in spending time to learn more about environmental issues because our environment greatly impacts our health and well-being. For instance, the quality of life of people living in poor and overpopulated urban areas is compromised because of issues like air pollution, traffic, limited access to clean water, and poor sanitation. So many diseases and deaths could be prevented by the proper implementation of environmental laws like the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 and the Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004.

I believe I am a citizen not just of our country, but of Earth. Thus, I know how important it is to be aware of the issues of the planet, specifically the environmental ones, to also be able to take actions accordingly and contribute better to Earth's environmental wellness (even in just my own little ways).

Furthermore, I also love to travel so if I won't really involve myself in taking care of Earth and preserving these wonderful blessings (from natural surroundings to animals, plants, natural resources, etc.) then I/we might lose all these and have nothing to explore/look forward to in this lifetime.

The state of the environment undeniably impacts each individual's quality of life; a consensus I believe we have come to. However we, as a society, have been too complacent, perhaps because an unjust "development" has been prioritized over detrimental consequences that disproportionately affect the poor and marginalized. This is one of the numerous reasons as to why I would invest my time in environmental issues; they are not mere issues of the environment, but issues concerning life.

On a more #senti level, I would often resort to observing the natural environment when I'm feeling overwhelmed; looking outside grants me the time to ponder, wonder, and reflect.

Everyone is affected by environmental issues one way or another, and the same is true the other way around. Our individual actions, no matter how small, can play a role in the collective action that may contribute to either the conservation or degradation of our environment. Moreover, since we are all affected by these issues, we also have the right and responsibility to call for accountability from the institutions that greatly impact the state of our planet. I believe that all of us need to do our parts in making sure that we leave the Earth habitable for the next generations. Because of this, I try to be as aware as possible on these issues, live as sustainably as I can, and encourage others to do the same. :>

At the start of my freshie year, I joined different organizations who had social advocacies just to know where I would fit in. One of my two orgs right now is AESS, Ateneo's environmental science org. Through this, I was able to learn more about what the environment's problems are and it opened my eyes because of the danger that the environment is facing. When I was in senior high school, I was part of Ateneo Biological Organization (Ateneo BOx-SHS). My time in the org exposed me to the multidisciplinary nature of environmental and biodiversity issues in the planet, as well as the different ways in which everyone can practice sustainability responsibly. Ever since then, I've been more aware that immediate action is needed to address environmental issues because we will be the only ones to suffer the consequences. Personally, I believe that we are all called to become stewards of our environment. We are all held accountable to what is given to us, which is our environmental resources! I believe it is due time for all of us to take responsibility for all the environmental issues, because in the end we will be the ones reaping the consequences, if not it would be our children and the succeeding generation. Thus, I have recently started taking great efforts to learn more about the environmental issues of today and ways to solve them through attending webinars online and reading up on journals. One of the things that I have learned and eventually started practicing is the purchasing of sustainable clothes, where we don't just buy fast fashion clothing that will only be worn a few times then not worn ever again. But we should purchase something that we plan to wear for a really long time and would last a long time too.

As a child, my dad would always bring me to the province to sight-see and play around beaches. Since this happens annually, as I grew up, I saw how much the sceneries change — mountains appear to have less trees but with more roads built on them and beaches have more trash than seashells. Seeing these drastic changes and realizing that they are becoming more irreversible each year had instilled a sense of responsible in me. Knowing this, I started lessening becoming more responsible with waste management, and have chosen products that are credible with their sustainable branding.

Our planet continues to change each year due to our activities, and we can already feel its effects (increasing temperature, drought, etc.) If we don't act now, we may not even have a future to look forward to.

Well quite frankly, I'm a Yolanda survivor. When one of our projects in my organization, Project LAAN (#plug), covered Distaster Risk Reduction I am reminded of how hard it is to grasp just how much impact Yolanda had even on a personal level. That's why I think all of us in our generation, at least the people I'm close to, are quite passionate about the environment and how to protect it in our own ways. It hurts to see what occured to us, what was supposed to be a once-in-a-lifetime event happen over and over again.

I would also argue it runs in the blood since my Dad is quite passionate about his love for nature. He even stopped pursuing Metallurgical Engineering because of its environmental destruction and decided to pursue medicine instead. Wild, I know but I guess it runs in the family.
