In this scenario the role of the teacher is that of a facilitator. Instead of being "the sage on the stage" the teacher is "the guide on the side". This enables the children to participate actively in inquiry/project based learning while developing their 21st century skills. Challenges include planning, resources & time. I would include specific learning outcomes and clear learning goals so the children all know the desired outcomes. I would use a rubric to assess the pupils' work at the end of the lesson.

The teacher play lots of roles. He organizes the class, moderates the lesson and facilitates the learning, helping his students to understand the new knowledge.

The main elements are the students. They must want to learn the new knowledge. Teachers organize their worksheets and their educational models taking into consideration the available resources and the students they have in their classes.

The challenge is to motivate students to actively attend the lesson. There are students who will be interested in the lesson. There are others who may not be interested in the subject or have no mood for learning. The challenge is to make the latter portion of the students be interested and involved. Of course, working in a exemplar school, having the necessary resources and in workshops with students who choose to attend the lab helps a lot to achieve the objectives of the course.

The teacher must also be a 'player' during the lesson. By doing so, they model, support and facilitate students learning. using the gamification approach to learning allows students to immerse themselves in the narrative and become fully absorbed with the task at hand. The students are given the space to 'fail' and try again.

Challenges include planning, resources, organising and pitching levels appropriately.

I would help students stay motivated by earning points/badges etc each level. The teacher could assess the learning against an overall success criteria (shared with the learners)or rubic at the end.

I think the role of the teacher should be a tutor like role. We provide students with the tools, we give them the rules and than we follow up their tasks and their development helping them make more questions about the tasks and leading them to the answers. In my case (Portugal) I think the biggest challenge is to cope gamification with school exams and "metas curriculares" (curriculum goals) we are supposed to achieve with students. Inside a gamified lesson the teacher should be person who facilitate the students to get appropriate competences; he has to clearly set the objectives he wants to achieve and he has to decide what game could be appropriate for the class. At the same the time he should be a player himself and so that students can perceive him not as a “teacher” but as a companion. Students become the centre of the learning process and they consider learning as a natural moment (like game is). I see the teacher is a facilitator, a monitor, a leader who encourages students to continue with a project on their own pace with fun. There are rewards when a student aims a target, and of course they want to reach it, and nobody is left behind. On the video the main elements of such an approach to learning are based on the Gamification Design Process, that is, there are rewards for each step students fulfilled. The teacher rewarded them with marking colors, then diplomas and finally with objects of reality or with artistic designs -with something that surprised students. On the other hand, I think the possible challenges that are to take into account when designing this type of teaching are the likes of the students (e.g. competitions), the designing of different levels to get rewards, and also the rewards themselves. To this approach I would add field trips to museums.

The concept of failure and another try is great. The challenge is in the fact that students start from zero, they do everything on their own and at the end they will have a product, a brand new one created by them and they will be awarded for what they do. That award (diploma) can stay in their room, all their friends could see it and that motivates them even more when they are recognised as experts in that field. Children are amazing and they are amazed by positive feedback – give them five and they will do anything, tell them that they don't do it right and they will not rise to try again.

We could briefly define it as student based learning. The teacher is the organizer/the mind behind the whole scenario and the students are the players. I would select as main elements: motivation, challenging, creative thinking and self-confidence due to the different steps and challenges that students must overcome. I loved the idea of diplomas to certify students' achievement and to maintain their motivation.

In this scenario of teaching, the teacher is a moderator and the students are active participants in the teaching process.
