I agree with Caroline, when she says that if we want to have pupils interested must be involved and active in the educational process.
I always use ICT in cross-curricular projects to motivate pupils to learn a less strenuous and help them constantly in the process of acquisition of digital skills.
With my students learn English with Dueling ( https://it.duolingo.com) and we have great fun.
I also agree with Caroline when she says that "For this I need to be a competent user myself," because I think that the teacher has the role of guide and mentor of his pupils then have to be prepared on what it teaches. This does not say you need to know everything, but he knows he must know it as himself.
The great thing about teaching is that often you learn from your pupils when they excited about the work of their teacher create and develop new skills and new skills who enjoy sharing in the wake of what the teacher gave them.

The definition of assessment – determining what’s “working” in the classroom
– is particularly important in the early stages of innovative course design because assessment makes it possible to:
- Make informed improvements to current practices
- Document success to share with funding agencies, department chairs, etc.
At its best, assessment should be valuable to the teaching/learning process and not another add-on or “make work” of little use to instructors. In fact, assessment activities can be helpful in promoting all of the Principles of Good Practice.

Reacting to the Past is an innovative new teaching style developed at Barnard College by Professor Mark Carnes in the mid 1990's. It consists of elaborate 4 - 6 week long "games", set in the past, in which students are assigned roles informed by classic texts in the history of ideas. Class sessions are run entirely by students; instructors advise and guide students and grade their oral and written work. It seeks to draw students into the past, promote engagement with big ideas, and improve intellectual and academic skills.

This film shows footage from the Henry VIII and the Reformation Parliament Game being played at Smith College. Students are given historic roles and asked to contend with the legislation and ideas of the English Reformation. Students debate the writings of Machiavelli, Luther, More, Erasmus and all of the issues and legislation that allowed and led to England to spliting with the Catholic Church.

The pedagogy is currently used at over 40 Colleges and Universities including Barnard and Smith College, the University of Georgia and the University of Texas at Austin. It was honored with the 2004 Theodore Hesburgh Award for pedagogical innovation and has received developmental support from the Christian A. Johnson Endeavor Foundation, Teagle Foundation, and FIPSE, U.S. Department of Education. It has also been featured in Change magazine, the Chronicle Review, the New York Times, the Chronicle of Higher Education; the Christian Science Monitor.

Module 1 - What is Technology-Enhanced Teaching (TET) Competence?

What is TET competence?
Technology-enhanced learning is not a new concept. Educators have integrated technology into their instruction for as long as there have been classrooms. Whether it be through textbooks made possible through the invention of the printing press, an overhead projector, a film strip, or an online simulation, teachers have always looked toward technology to provide students with higher quality learning experiences.

However, innovations in content delivery, assessment methods, and adaptive learning are changing what it means to educate students in the 21st century. New technologies are enhancing our understanding of how students learn and providing instructors the ability to customize course materials and create personalized learning experiences tailored to students’ individual needs.

As technology and instructional methods evolve, so do students’ expectations for a technology-driven learning experience. Emerging online learning models encourage students to be more active participants in their own learning - allowing them to not just be content consumers, but content creators as well. As digital natives, students want to attend a university that effectively integrates the latest technologies and teaching methods into their education.

Technology should never be used in teaching for its own sake--it should be used in service to specific learning goals you have for your students. That said, every instructor can use technology to enhance their teaching in uniquely effective ways.
