He is known to be an avatar of great strength for Vishnu; this was Vishnu reincarnated as a half-man, half lion in order to kill Hiranyakashipu the demon. Hiranyakashipu had received a boon from Brahma which made him invulnerable from dying at the hands of a human or animal, from inside or outside, by day or by night, and that no weapon could harm him. Narasimha kills Hiranyakashipu by his nails. The death of this demon king is celebrated as Holi.</div>]]></description>
