The genre of "Carrie" can be considered supernatural due to Carrie White's unusual telekinetic powers that she uses to get revenge on her bullies and mother

This movie places a majority of the time at fictional school, Ewen High School, using the audience's mundane view of school life and flipping it upside down by introducing supernatural beings, and the fear of a massacre such as the one during prom, happening to them/their kids

Carrie uses changes in lighting and music to create a burdening and heavy atmosphere for the movie that increases a sense of dread for its watchers. During the prom scene, the lighting changes with Carrie's movements as she uses her powers to lock everyone in, going from a soothing blue to a deep red in color. The darker motive of the room is used as both a mood change, and a subtle foreshadowing of the flames and murder that's about come.

Final Girl: Sue Snell

Why is Sue Snell a final Girl?

Sue Snell is considered by many to be a Final Girl due to her being one, if not the only person, to survive the slaughter that happens near the end of the movie started by Carrie's rage

What Rules Did She Break or Follow?

Unlike most Final Girls, Sue was very rude and mean girl-ish to Carrie. Despite the two being friends, Sue is still engaged in the bully towards Carrie, however near the end she does change her attitude and seemingly gets spared because of it. Sue is also hinted towards not being a virgin in the movie and outright told/shown to not be a virgin in the books, ruining the innocent cliche for the final girl furthermore.

Why is she your favorite Final Girl?

Honestly, she isn't. Every action she does that goes against Carrie just creates a pit of hatred and dread in my stomach that just pushes me closer towards favoring Carrie. Sue is a jerk that messes with her "best friend" just because she's put under the pressure of her peers, however that's also what makes me pity Sue. Sue has many issues with herself that dictates her actions and opinions, she is a complex character that seems shallow and mean on the outside, but on the inside she is deep with her own fears and insecurities that eat her up. King's idea to give Sue a bit of a redemption towards the end was a smart one and it was perfect since it undoubtedly made the audience question which side they were on.

3 Elements of Horror from Psycho

The environment and music create most of the suspense for the unnerving feeling of Psycho. During the car ride scene, the music's crescendo raises to blast in the audience's ears and the loud noise of the rain hitting the car drowns out any other sound.

The hotel manger is hinted towards having something wrong with him. The use of taxidermy as his decoration and the unusual way of speaking, create alarms in the audience's head that makes them ponder and worry if he's the one that makes this movie R rated

The actual use/showing of the killing was unusual at the time

Final Girl: Marion Crane

Why is Marion Crane Considered a Final Girl?

Marion Crane is considered by many to be a Final Girl due to the fact she has many traits and personality quirks of a Final Girl. Crane is determined and forward and the main focus of the movie as the story follows everything she does and generally everything that is related to what she has done/said.

What Rules Did She Break or Follow?

Marion seemingly only broke the rules of the Final Girl trope; she dies in the end, she isn't innocent, she has intimate relations with her boyfriend. Everything she did was very combative with how she was "supposed to act", however this is fine for her character because she is meant to be a driving force for the story to continue

How Has Her Role Inspired Final Girl Roles in Horror Films to Follow

The role of Marion Crane in Psycho has inspired many to follow in the basic premise of what she was meant to be; the survivor, independent, able to push the narrative forward with little to no help from others. Everything Marion did in the movie was a perfect blueprint for a beloved, and overused, horror movie trope that's been refined and degraded over the years into the innocent main character that the audience has so they can root for at least someone to live by the end.
