Some fun facts about Haiti are that Haiti has a carnival that leads to Mardi Gras similar to Brazil. Another, fun fact is that Haiti is the second country in the Americas that gained independence behind america. At last Port-au-prince is Haiti capital.

People may think Haiti is the only country on its island, but on the Haitian border towards the west, you will find the Dominican Republic. Haiti is the southern part of North America. If you are interested in knowing the exact coordinates of Haiti it is at 19° North and 72° West.

Climate

Haiti is in the tropics meaning it has a tropical climate. This climate can help society in many ways. For example in tropical climates you can get lots of rainfall, which can make fertile soil. This leads to better crop growth and a surplus of food. This is a benefit because more people can survive because, there is more food to go around. Also when there is more food to go around, more people have energy to work more and provide for their country.

However, Haiti is a hurricane and earthquake frequent country. So if they get hit by an earthquake crops could be destroyed that could've been eaten or sold. Hurricanes would be an even worse drawback because it can destroy infrastructure and knowledge: also mainly destroy progress

Natural Resources

Haiti has lots natural resources such as gold and cocoa. Nevertheless it's most valued resource is petroleum Haiti has about 142 million barrels of it. Since petroleum is a nonrenewable resource it has a extremely high value, at about 70 dollars per barrel so Haiti can get lots of money from selling it. However petroleum is a nonrenewable resource so it can run out so if Haiti uses to much of it one of it's biggest exports would be gone so it would be harder for them to get money. Also, petroleum is a fossil fuel meaning that it is hurting the environment. So petroleum can have some benefits but I think that drawbacks out weigh the benefits of petroleum.

Some forms of transportation are boats, Tap-taps or painted busses and Taxis. Haiti does not have lots of airports, it has 17 airports, and out of those airports only two are international. In Haiti there are many ways that information spreads for example information could spread using news channels, the internet, radio stations. Haiti can export and import goods in a few ways. Haiti only has 4 international seaports and 2 international airports which is not a lot so it is much harder to import and export goods. This means that getting imports would be much harder. So making progress will be much harder in Haiti because it will be hard to get help from other country's.

Landform

One important landform in Haiti is mountains. Specifically the mountain of Pic la Selle. Living in this mountain could be dangerous because mountains could be hard to walk up and could have less air. Also trading would be much harder because mountains are not easy to get up and through so trade routes would be destroyed Another important landform in Haiti is valleys. The best river valley for growing crops in Haiti is the Plaine de L'artibonite. This river valley would be nice to live in because it has lots of water to drink and fertile soil. Since this river has lots of water and fertile soil people can grow crops and eat more because of this river.

Conclusion

The characteristics of Haiti have a large impact on the people of Haiti. Due to the fact that Haiti is in the tropics it has a warm climate that could help and hurt the people of Haiti. The lack of natural resources Haiti has makes it very reliant on imports which is why Haiti is a poor country. The place that Haiti is in should allow it to take in lots of imports, but Haiti does not have a lot of international seaports so it cannot take in many imports. Some landforms in Haiti could have a negative impact for example, the Mountain of Pic la Selle has a negative impact because it could destroy trade routes. Other landforms could have positive impacts, for example Plaine de L'artibonite has a positive impact because it has fresh water that you could drink water for or grow crops from the water around it.
