How Social Media Is Shaping Art - The Impact of an Instagram Obsessed Culture (magazine)

Magazine
- Social media is a way to communicate and keep up with current events happening in the world and "satisfy our most materialistic needs or even quench our thirst for activism"
- Social media has changed the view on art, especially street art. From changing forms to walls where many will see like Banksy. Most get a lot of attention on social media and profit off of it. Many question if people use social media to post their art to get more attention and money for themselves instead of making art for the masses themselves.
- Social media can lead to an obsession to become popular or famous. As the magazine states about Yayoi Kusama, "Her installations are all over Instagram, leaving us to wonder if the experience is still about the art, or if it is just another way to cultivate the vanity of the spectator and their overwhelming desire to fit into the practices cultivated and endorsed by social media."
- Art online has become diluted to fit what goes viral and to align with other images and pieces posted online.
- Digitally we’re hyper-connected and yet so disconnected from each other” - iHeart
- The pink wall in LA was 'sabotaged' in 2018 by the street artist Thrasher, with the words "fuck your selfie"
- With this, it shows how art online can be used as marketing easily becuase like the pink wall people want to post it on their feed and it is famous so more people will go to see it.
