Event: Tom was found guilty by all jurors.
Reflection: Atticus' effort to prove Tom's innocence are vain, but he knew that there couldn't have been another possible outcome since the jury could never put an African American man over a white one.

Event: Atticus was beaten and threatened by Bob Ewell.
Reflection: By Mr. Ewell's action it is posible to contrast these two personalities. Nobody has the right to attack anyone, but it is specially ridiculous that it was Mr. Ewell who did so to Atticus, taking into account that he was the one telling lies under oath while Atticus was telling facts.

Event: Atticus allows the children to return to the trial.
Reflection: Atticus sent the children home to eat but allowed them to return to experience the what was left of the trial. This shows us that he thinks that it's important for their children to get a glimpse at this kind of situations as they grow and mature, it enables them to see further and to understand issues (like racism) that need to be tackled.

Event: Jem is particularly crushed by the trial's outcome.
Reflection: Jem was the most affected by the trial's outcome as he was completely convinced Tom was inocent. He thought no one in Maycomb had done anything to help Tom Robinson and he couldn't wait to be older and change the things. This shows that he is forming a moral sense of his own, following in the footsteps of Atticus.

Event: Jem, Scout, Dill and Aunt Alexandra are worried that Mr. Ewell may do something to Atticus as he threatened him after the trial.
Reflection: Atticus seems calm and expresses that he'd rather take Mr. Ewell's fury if it meant the Ewell kids wouldn't suffer. With each of Atticus' actions we get a bigger idea about how he is as a person, and it never disappoints us. Atticus is a selfless man, and he doesn't mind being bothered by Mr. Ewell because it meant he wouldn't bother one of his own kids. Atticus is always doing things to help others.

Event: Aunt Alexandra forbiddens Scout to bring Walter Cunningham to their house.
Reflection: Aunt Alexandra had a clear thought that there should be a line between people of different classes, as in the case of the Flinches and the Cunninghams. Eventhough the Cunninghams may be nice people, she thought they shouldn't mix with them, and that started a disagreement with Scout, who wanted to bring Walter to their house. This part of the reading shows that racism is not the only problem in Maycomb's society, so is classism.

Event: Scout joins Aunt Alexandra in a meal she's hosting for her missionary friends where she is asked lots of questions.
Reflection: Scout started despising less the ladies from the missionary circle and aunt Alexandra. She is no longer immature around people she isn't compatible with. Also, she takes on a "ladylike" so she isn't bother about it but still maintains her personality. This mature move shows she increasing her proximity to adult life.

Event: Atticus unexpectedly arrives home and shares that Tom Robinson was shot while attempting to escape prison.
Reflection: This news shocked everyone and Atticus was affected as he considered Tom had chances. They considered Tom had been able to escape if it weren't for his mutilated arm. Even Aunt Alexandra was horrified that the guards shot Tom about 17 times without caring about his life. This showed a black man's life didn't matter in the guards' eyes.

Event: The news of Tom's death spread quickly through Maycomb.
Reflection: People had a lot to say about Tom's death. Majority of the comments are negative and express bad feelings not only towards Tom, but towards the whole black race. For example, Bob Ewell said that it was one down and about two more to go, this is racism at its finest.

Event: Tom Robinson's death appeared in an article of the Maycomb newspaper, where Tom's death was compared with a mockingbird's death.
Reflection: Mister Underwood wrote an article about the brutal death of Tom while he was trying to escape. He compared it to a mockingbird's death because he was killed foolishly and senselessly. Also, this made Scout realize that Tom Robinson was dead since the moment where Mayella Ewell shouted and accused him of rape.
