Under the feet of the Jesus has a lot of slangs in Spanish. For example “Gracias a Dios” in page 6, meaning Thanks to God. Another one is “¡Te van a comer los niños de la Tierra!” they used it to scare the kids when they were miss behaved. That means “The kids from the dirt are going to eat you”.

At first I think the family isn’t that close besides the siblings. Just because most of the times Estrella took care of them. Another thing I can point out is that her mom wasn’t emotionally stable. Her ex-husband left them to go to Mexico and maybe that’s one of the reasons why Petra can be like that. Something I also noticed was that the boys, Alejo and Gumencindo didn’t like there job but they would to anything to get the fruit and sell it. In the other hand Estrella worked a lot too but i think she’s wasn’t as great full like her siblings and cousins. Maybe she was like that because of her father and she missed him a lot. But her mom also had a big task of having to feed five children. Petra was trying her best but Estrella didn’t see that. In my opinion Petra and Estrella don’t have the best mother/daughter relationship. I can relate to this chapter a little just because Perfecto feels homesick, and I feel the same way. I really miss my family and friends back home.

In this chapter I saw how Alejo is really close with his grandma. He’s grandma wanted the best for him in school. If it weren’t for her, he wouldn’t have big expectations in life, and wanted to be recognized. She also didn’t want him to be like he’s dad, the “cabeza de burro”. She knew he was very intelligent. In the other hand I also want to point out that Estrella realize how much her mom loves her even at rough times. Petra only wants the best for her children. Estrella was very scared of the migra, the immigration police who controlled the border. But her mom told her to not be scared and tell them that her birth certificate was under the feet of Jesus. That means that Jesus is always with her and her siblings.

This chapter I think its really dramatic. First with Alejo getting really sick and everybody was concerned about his health. I think that even though the family fights a lot they obviously love each other no matter what In this chapter I see love. But I also can tell that Petra is really frustrated because she wants to find a way to help Alejo. She has so many things happening all at once, i know for a fact she is really stressed. Mostly this chapter is about how she try’s to “cure” him with techniques she knows about.
