         <title>My Activities to make teaching interesting</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In my class, I use various activities. I make sure that at least once or twice in a week, I change the pattern of my teaching. Especially, when I get sometimes three lessons in a day in the same class then, it is more important to use the various activities which is different than the traditional way of teaching. Following are some activities: <br><br></div><div><strong>Class discussions</strong>—held in person or in group in different  environment,other than the class. I take them to the beach, which is close to my school. Discussions can give individuals a chance to participate. i  encourage students to think critically. Then the field visit to the actual place. Eg: Bank visit, before teaching about the banks, really helps.<br><strong>Learning cells</strong>—by pairing two students together to study and learn, this <a href="http://www.edudemic.com/4-ways-to-start-using-active-learning-in-the-classroom/">method</a> lets students ask and answer each other questions, giving them a chance to explore and discuss. I use it while teaching Global Perspective.<br><strong>Ask what was the </strong><a href="http://cit.duke.edu/get-ideas/teaching-strategies/active-learning/"><strong>muddiest point</strong></a>—just before the end of class, sometimes I ask students to reflect and write a 1-2 minute response on what was the muddiest point (alternatively, what was the most important point). Very important for my subject- Economics.<br><strong>Peer tutoring activities —</strong> whether occasional or frequent I use this method and it is of great help, especially for the below average students. It helps both students. Students who read and discuss economic theories and issues with their peers recall more content and score higher on assessments. Students who work in pairs and groups typically perform better on tests that involve reasoning and critical thinking. This is largely because students must become active learners, discussing and rationalizing lesson concepts in their own words. I have notice that my average and below average students building confidence and communication abilities. Students generally identify more easily with peer helpers than with teacher. This helps create an environment in which students are more comfortable to ask questions and work through challenging problems in an environment free from class ridicule.<br><br></div><div><br></div><div><strong>I believe, "active learning helps create an excitement and engagement in the class, which helps build a desire to gain more knowledge."<br></strong><br></div><div>Rajesh Varghese</div>]]></description>
