The fundamentals of that make up literacy gets confined to just reading  and writing. Literacy to me can be defined as an essential aspect of our everyday lives that is embedded in our activities, social interactions & relationships. It is not only the ability to read & write, but to comprehend.

2) We all are apart of discourse communities

Communities we are part of can be for various reasons, yet every community has it's own discourse that is special to that discourse community.


3)Multiliteracies allows diverse engagement in the classroom

Diversity in the classroom supports building on the idea that power stuctures work and how they are important in society. Understanding students means knowing that students come from different backgrounds and cultures. We can

4) There's a kit!
James Gee introduced us to the idea of discourse as an “identity kit” that “comes complete with the appropriate costume and instructions on how to act, talk, and often write, so as to take on a particular role that others will recognize” (“What Is Literacy” 51).


5) When in doubt, MUSHFAKE IT UNTIL YOU MAKE IT

Ain't nothing but a Gee thang! New literacies allow room for new knowledge and experiences. If you don't be too hard on yourself as you learn a new literacy.
