This book I recently read was actually a better book than I expected it was before I started reading it. The book thought a lesson about being able to conquer a fear you have from your past. It was a great book about a boy named Mafatu who's mother died of the sea and he feared the sea since then. His Father, the tribe leader was ashamed of him and everyone had been making fun of him. He ran off to a different island in the Pacific and there he learned to conquer his fear. He had accomplished things a Polynesian man could only do, when he came back everyone of his tribe saw his accomplishments because of the items he brought with him. There he no longer feared the sea and knew he was a Polynesian man.

I read this book for our survival unit in language arts. This book was pretty good and funny at the same time. The book was mainly about feminism where 50 girls from all the states in America were on their way to a beauty pageant to win Miss Teen Dream. But all of a sudden their transportation a plane had crashed in what they thought was an abandoned island. Some of the main characters were Taylor from Texas, Adina from New Hampshire. When they got their Taylor took the lead of being the leader as she got more votes from other girls. Taylor's plans were not sufficient though she wanted to practice for their beauty pageant because she had hope they would be rescued. As the Girls split up to find survival ways more of their secrets were revealed and their true personality, one was even a boy from a boy band. During their search for supplies they found out that this was all part of a plan by a group called "The Corporation" who was making this all part of a reality show and then they faked out all the dangers such as snakes which were just robots. Pirates lead by a criminal, MoMo Cha then came to the island and started playing nasty with the girls. Later on they were able to sneak in the corporation who treats them nicely, but were planning something with the beauty pageant leader, LadyBird Hope who told them to kill the girls. The girls fight their way out saving their friends and they were rescued and exposed LadyBird Hope by sending her sex tape with MoMo Cha. The girls later on quit the pageant stuff and became more matured and lived their lives.

Every eight grader had to read this book in our second trimester. This book was very detailed and realistic since it took place in the 1930's. The book was mainly about racism, sexism and classicism. The book starts out with the main character Scout Finch or Jean Louise Finch. Scout was a girl under the age of ten who had a brother named Jem and her dad was Atticus Finch a lawyer who throughout the book was fighting for an African American man,Tom Robinson who was accused of raping someone. Scout the main character was a tomboy, but everyone around her is always wanting her to change except for her brother Jem short for Jeremy. Scout and Jem are always hanging around their neighborhood and city along with their friend Dill Harris who is from Mississippi. In the book Scout encounters many people and had learned so much at a young age. One thing Scout, Jem, and Dill had done before was go into the Radely's who the neighborhood had always said was bad because of their son Boo Radely who may people are afraid of because he never comes out. But in the end they later on find out that Boo wasn't that bad, he was just sick, but he was really nice. Another main idea in the story was the trial of Tom Robinson. Tom Robinson was African American so the whites never believed him throughout the case. Tom was accused of raping Mayella Ewell who is part of the poor Ewell family . The truth was Mayella was in love with Tom, but Tom didn't feel the same way so Mayella cried out to her dad, Bob Ewell who had beaten her because she wouldn't stop whining and her dad was also drunk. Her dad had told the court that it was Tom Robinson and many people had believed what he said. Overall I think the book was great and funny at times. The book teaches a lot of important lessons throughout the story. At first I thought the book was going to be boring, but it was fun to read even though I don't read that much.

I read this book for pleasure since I love basketball and this book was all about the game. The book takes place in a ghetto type area in Brooklyn with the main character named Drew Larson. Drew Lawson is a highschool Guard for Baldwin school. He is 6'5 tall and everybody knows that he loves to play basketball and he is good at it. Drew's team and game were fine until two white guys from an international country came and his coach changed everything, the way he played and the way the team played. Dre was getting less minutes or sometimes he can't even play because the coach was trying to build the team around their new big man Tomas. Not only does Drew have this going around in his life, but he also has some friends and family problems going on outside of basketball. Drew would later on resolve his problems with his coach and he would be back to his original mojo or game. Drew was clutch for the rest of his season as he hit a couple of game winners. Everything was fine until unexpectedly before reaching the nationals their team had a devastating loss with someone hitting a game winner. Everything for Drew as over and his team, Drew felt that his life was over. A couple of his teammates got some college offers while Drew had waited a while to get one from DePaul University where he could be seen in national T.V. which may have brought back his life. Drew would later on get more offers and live his life happily with his teammates and new friends like Tomas.
