This book is about the story loving you for who you are, respecting others, and being kind. I chose this book because I feel that children can learn a lot from the lessons that are taught in this book.

In this book, it talks about how to calm your thoughts, navigate stress, and understand anxiety. It explains that riding the wave of anxiety and knowing how to manage it is important, rather than just sitting in it. There are breathing exercises, strategies for stress and anxiety, and ways to regulate our emotions. I think this book teaches about very important topics that are not talked about enough in school If we can teach young kids these strategies now, they will be more aware of their emotions and stressors.
Identity: This book can help students question how they handle their emotions and how they relieve stress.
Skills: how to read and understand the illustrations in relation to the text, know how to do the exercises taught, visual literacy
Intellect: teaches about ways to calm their bodies and breathe in an effective way, lessons on stress management
Criticality: can spark discussion on how to help our peers that may have trouble with controlling emotions and when to know to get help from an adult

I chose this topic because mental health and emotions in general were stigmatized when I was in elementary school and it is important to teach children at a young age how to regulate emotions and how to tell others how they are feeling. Especially with the pandemic, I feel that children went through a lot during these unprecedented times and now that things are starting to get back to normal, teachers need to be addressing these important topics because children's emotions should be taken as seriously as everyone else's emotions. I am a strong advocate for mental health awareness and educating kids on being emotionally and mentally healthy is setting a good foundation for their future.

It's very versatile activity that can be used for a wide age range. There is lots of different ways they can express their feelings i.e. drawing, writing, comparisons, speaking with the group, and listening to others.
Identity: this is can be an independent activity where they can truly reflect and express themselves
Skills: rhyming, use of figurative language, poem writing
Intellect: teaches students different modes in which they can express emotions, collaborate with a group, organization of writing
Criticality: this is important for students because it destigmatizes the narrative that we should keep emotions inside and not share with others.

This is a wonderful poem about how flowers bloom after rain and it is normal to go through emotion changes. It also talks about how everyone passes each other and we all go through difficult times so we should be kind towards others since we do not know what they are going through. There are many ways to interpret this poem which is a good thing because students can make it personal based on their experiences.
Identity: Since this is a poem, students can interpret it the way they understand it, so, it's a good way for them to reflect on their own experiences and feelings.
Skills: sentence structure/ stanzas, reading fluency, vocabulary, grammar/punctuation, visualization
Intellect: teaches students about how to be kind, not judge others, and how to show gratitude
Criticality: This is an older poem and the author is a black man that served in WW1 and passed in 1921.
