it is ironic how they are living in a society that is so advanced and yet the technology that they rely on has set them back so far. In this story they are so advanced in their technology that the characters in this story don't even need to lift a finger. But this has set them far back because they can't do normal day to day activities.

The overall message of "The Veldt" is that technology is a excellent piece of society, but it can make a person stubborn, rude, and just plain mean to others. It can turn people lazy and non-responsive. It can also make people lose human emotions and feelings.

The two main conflicts within "The Veldt" were between technology versus the parents and the parents versus the children. The parents learn that the technological marvel that is their home and the "nursery" which originally was seen as a miracle is actually destroying their family. The conflict between the parents and the children is that the kids are no longer reliant on the parents, they are reliant on technology, so when the parents turn off the home along with all the technology in it, the children go completely insane. This leads to them killing their parents by somehow manifesting real lions in the virtual reality machine known as the "nursery".
