Durability embodies one of denim's greatest strengths, the fabric is known to be resistant from abrasion and is quite rugged. Furthermore, the construction of denim, a diagonal weave provides denim with a quality of strong drapability. Denim is also more resistant to wrinkling than some other fabrics with similar use cases. 

Despite these strengths, denim holds some drawbacks as well within specific aspects of its construction. The rigidity of denim often is seen as a negative of denim, requiring producers to soften the fabric, adding an additional step to the production process. Additionally, this nature of rigidity demands that denim is crafted with specialized equipment, thus increasingly construction costs for a producer. Lastly, denim is subject to color transfer and can be susceptible to bleeding onto other fabrics.

Fortunately, many processes have been created to adapt to these weaknesses which have cemented denim as a top American fabric within the last 50 years and beyond.
