         <description><![CDATA[<div>Non-biologists should care about this intersection as it can used to advance the technology that we have to combat many health issues, such as:<br><br></div><ul><li><strong>Biosensors to detect analytes. </strong>For example, glucose for autoregulating insulin pumps.</li><li><strong>Tissue stimulation.</strong> Three examples are pacemakers, spinal cord nerve stimulation devices, and cochlear implant</li><li><strong>Adaptive signals and measurement. </strong>For example, if the impedance on the electrodes of a pacemaker are encapsulated, the system might up the power to reach the heart tissues of interest.&nbsp; In the case of biosensors, it means a weaker signal, so the sensitivity has to adapt.</li><li><strong>Slow releasing drugs. </strong>Releasing drugs that modulate the immune response during the critical moments can help reduce the extend of the encapsulation, at least for some time.</li><li><strong>New materials.</strong>&nbsp; Coatings with chemicals like PEG or surface modifications can improve biocompatibility and reduce the chance of encapsulation.</li><li><strong>Gene therapy.&nbsp; </strong>You could for example, use tissue engineering to add a gene that modulates the immune response or causes neovascularization that might breach the encapsulation.</li></ul>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Biological engineering will definitely be used in the future to create new cures for diseases (such as through medicine or through cell vectors) and will likely expand the human lifespan as a result. It will also likely find alternatives to current medicinal practices along with these cures. </div>]]></description>
