Though after understanding what the word truly means I understand how important it is to not just me but society as a whole. This is because one of the biggest problems of society that dates back hundreds of years is understanding and accepting that everybody has their own struggles and issues when it comes to things such as race and gender. Though after taking a step back and reflecting, especially with the Check Yourself At The Door Assignment, I was starting to see patterns in some the movies and shows I've watched. For example in many of the old school and even some recent action movies and TV shows I've watched, there is always some sort of damsel in distress trope or the male leads are super big and have loads of muscle and the female is dressed in some more revealing outfits and is super fit.

This is because in order for everybody to be able to coexist with one another and truly unite as one, we as a society need to be able to understand the poeple we want to untie with, understand their issues, what they are dealing with and preach that to those who want to listen and even those who do not because they need to. It is only when we do these things in which society as a whole can be together and go on in a positive and safe manner.

My second artifact is this quote from the book Suicide Notes from the character Michael Thomas Ford. This is a quote I found when I randomly searched funny book quotes and this is a quote that stood out to me because of the realization of how weird society is. What I mean by thi is that we do not tell our friends and family that we are straight and into the opposite sex, but when one is gay, they are expected to make a big deal out of coming out to their friends and family, when, in my opinion, it should not be that much of a deal at all, unless one wants it to be because what really is the difference between both scenarios other than the fact that one is gay and on is straight. I chose to reflect on this character because this year while taking this course I went back and rewatched the whole TV series on Netflix and during my first viewing Alec was my favourite character, but I never knew why. Well, during my second viewing I realized that reason. It was because Alec, being a gay man, was not like many of the other gay characters I have seen on Tv where they are mostly depicted as feminine.
